It is only your sensor

If you speedo meter is hunting or flicker at times, it could be cable or sensor. My speedometer was hunting and I just open my front dashboard and tightened the connection.

Below is one of the problem solved by someone.

This happened to me a couple years ago in a Dodge Caravan. The problem was the speedometer sensing unit. When it goes bad, the automatic transmission defaults to a "safe" mode where it stays in second gear. It was a long, slow drive out of the mountains and back into town and the transmission shop, but I was sure glad to hear it was just a sensor (less than $100 including labor) and not a transmission problem.

Which fuse runs speedometer for hyundae santa fe

The fuse for the instruments also powers the speedometer as well as the other instruments. If your speedo only is not working, it may be a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the transmission or the speedometer itself may be defective.

Speedo stopped working trans started to shift hard does not turn off door locks lock you in dattery dies alternatoe tests were good all symtoms appeared within days of each other

You have described several systems which can produce the symptoms you're having. First thought regarding the speedo and hard shift - VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor is located on the transmission at the diffferential housing. OR, you might have an INPUT SHAFT and/or OUTPUT SHAFT speed sensor(s) malfunction. Best advice, take the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai Service Department to have it PROPERLY diagnosed - will most likely save you money in the long run. Have them scan the ECU/TCM (Engine Control Unit/Transmission Control Unit) for any trouble codes (DTC's = Diagnostic Trouble Codes). This will point the technician in the right direction (if there are any codes).

My speedometer drops to zero or jumps erratically plus cruise control stops. This only happens occasionally when at highway speeds. Rarely in town.

sounds like a bad speedo drive gear or speed sensor mounted on the rear of the trans there is no speedo cable, its electronic its not expensive take it to the dealer they will know exactly whats wrong with it

1999 Hyundai Sonata speedometer not working

Yes the electronic speedo itself has failed, the input they refer to is the vehicle speed sensor, the speedo can be repaired, send it to a authorized factory repair center, don't go through the dealer they send it out as well, and then 2X the repair bill to you.
