Question about 2006 GMC Sierra

No power to trailer running lights

I have a boat trailer hooked to a 2006 gmc sierra with no power; suspect a bad fuse. have looked on the side pannel fuse block and all look ok, is there a specific fuse for the running lights?

I have a 3500 2008 and I have no power on the running lights (green) at the trailer receptacle on the truck.

I suspected the camper, but it was the NEW TRUCK! The weekend could be ruined and I am choked at GMC.

Hi,

This is a known issue and to my knowledge there was even a recall order to correct this fault. It would seem the the wiring harness itself is the reason. You may want to reference these pages here and/or here.

Should you however prefer to perform a DIY, then you would need a DVM to check for voltages. This page shows the possible wiring scheme used by most manufacturers for trailer configuration.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Right trailer turn signal does not work when hooked up to my 2003 gmc sierra. The light does work on the truck. Trailer light does work when hooked up with my other vehicles.

Check the plug at your gmc outlet, your right signal wire has been damaged before the plug somewhere. If you have a test light switch your right signal on and make sure it is working at the plug on your gmc, you will find it is not working, than trace the wire back from the plug till you find where it has been damaged or you can run a wire straight from plug to your right signal.

Check fuse 28 in the fuse block under the left side of the dash. There is also a relay for the trailer park lamps in that same fuse block. The fuse and relay are the trailer parking lamps and run independantly of the vehicles parking lights. You can also try backprobing the other trailer plug (you should have one 7 pin and one 4 pin) to see if there is power at the park light pin. If there is power at the other trailer plug than the fuse and relay are bad and you may have a bad/corroded plug or bad wring to the plug that doesn't work.

2006 GMC Sierra The trailer park lights won't come on

Suspect 7 pin connector problem , you should have power on the 8pm positioned and the centre pin position as you look into the socket (on vehicle. These pins are both male pins as you look at them . If ok check trailer wiring where it splits for either lamp assy ! Good luck

sounds like the adpater to the hook-up is bad. or your grounds arent completely grounded. thats where i would start before rewiring the trailer.

First replace the trailer light brake/turn signal fuses. I have seen where the fuse will show good, but loose connection in the block. You can easily do it by using the flashers. Using a test light you can check power in and out of the fuse. Just touch the tester to the metal pin on top of the fuse... on both sides. Power in and power out. If power is there on both sides and still nothing below the fuse box, the box is bad. Not a common problem. Also check http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx.

When you plug the trailer the lihgts dont come on but the brake&signal lights do work

There's a break in the connection on the running lights..either on the car side of the plug or the trailer side.. use a probe light on each terminal of the car side plug with the running lights turned on...if there's power, then the problem is on the trailer... check for a damaged wire near the tongue ...usually the culprit..
Good luck... email if you need more help..
