Pull the wheels off .undo brake fluid cover .On the back of rotor there are 2 long pins that you have to remove to pull the caliper off.After the caliper is off pull the old brake pads off ,remembering which way they came off.Now with either a large C-Clamp ,or large channell lock pliers compress the large round metal part that pushes against the back of brake pad.The idea is this,your new pads wont fit on the rotor unless you compress this part ALL the way down,that is why you took the fluid cover off earlier,so the back pressure can go back into the brake fluid reservoir .Once you have this part pushed in ,install the 2 pads and put the whole thing back over and on the rotor .Last of all put the long pins back on tight, put the wheel on ,and now do the other side.............Good luck ! Screaming brakes dont mean the fluid is low, the brakes squeaking is due to vibration of the pads and calipers, the brakes could be fine and still squeak, in order to rid the noise you would need to remove the pads and replace the pad hardware clips and then apply some anti squeal to backside of the pads,this helps almost always but some cars the pads are so glazed that they need replacing and rotors machined or replaced, if your dad said they were good for now then its safe. if the noise is something you wish to get rid of then follow the above instructions. good day.
the bolts are getting really hot because the friction of the pads running on the rotor the whole time whilst driving.
the pedal problem could be a few things but the most likely is either that the brake fluid needs replacing because it's got water in it,
there's air in the lines or the brakes master cylinder seals need replacing due to age.

It's not that hard to replace, but there are some tools that your going to have to buy. If there is a Auto Zone in you're area, you can buy the brake pads and may be a new brake rotor if they look to worn out. The rotors are not that expensive any more. They also have the right tools to buy or you can use there tool loner program to get the job done and they have the step by step instructions to replacing the break pads. It would be to hard to tell and show you over the computer. The best and easiest way for you is to buy a Chilton manual for your car at the autoparts store. The book runs about $20 This book is a do-it-yourself bible. It will show you everything you need to know on how to do maintenance and repair on your vehicle.

one bolt to remove, and the caliper will swing out of the way. Get a C-clamp and loosen the brake bleederand compress the piston back into the caliper. Tighten the bleeded screw & take the clamp back off after the bleeded screw is tighten!!!! When U purchase the pads, make sure the you get the jelley type, RTV the you put on the metal of the pad backing to keep the brakes from squeeling when you apply the brakes going down the road, Install the pads, and put bolt back on. Your finish, brake job done.
