Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Ignition I turn the key and engine is not turning over but all the dash lights are on. There is a clicking sound coming from behind the glove compartment ('glove box' as I'm in Wales). This happened once before, but then started all of a sudden. Another strange symptom is that the wipers, front and back, went on for no apparent reason. My initial thought was that it might be something to do with the immobilizer or the switch on the clutch pedal, but I don't know how to check these out. Thanks, WC

Why will my jeep not start

Likely that the "clicking sound" behind the dashboard is the IGNITION RELAY. Start by replacing the ignition relay (inexpensive and easy to replace).

1999 grand prix lights works but wont start. hear one click behind dash when i turn the key to start it.

If you are saying the engine will not crank, try it in neutral instead of park.
The neutral safety switch could be faulty, or you could have a problem with the starter solenoid on the starter.

Clicking sound but engine won't start

This actually does sound like the battery is low on charge. A battery which is quite low on charge will still light the headlights and run many other electrical accessories, but will not engage the starter (which requires much more power than other accessories).
I would start by making sure that an electrical device, such as interior lights, glove box lights, trunk light or something else has not been left on. Then carefully jump start the engine. It is also possible that the battery might need to be replaced for not holding a charge.

It wont start it doesnt turn over what could be wrong with it

Check your battery first, is there a clicking when you turn the key, or do the lights come on? If not, then you need to charge your battery, or replace it. If the battery is a dead-cell, you will want to change your alternator as well. If there is no clicking or other sound when you turn the key, and you have good lights, the your problem is in the ignition circuit itself. Check the Buss fuses for the ignition on the left side under the dash. If your fuses are good, replace the starter relay behind the center of the dash. If you're still having problems, check the interlock switch on the left side of the dash. Beyond that, your possible problems could be the ignition switch itself, the inhibitor switch on the transmission, or an actual problem in a wire itself. At that point you really need a professional to check all of your wire runs.

New starter, battery good, all lights on dash come on but when I turn the key to start the car, I get no sound at all from the starter. So what is the problem? Also, does this 1996 Toyota Corolla...

There is a 12 volt signal from the ignition switch to the starter relay ! Start by having someone turn the ignition to start and with a test light on the small wire at starter see if it lights up with the ignition cylce at start ! Second -locate the starter relay in the fuse block and swap it with another same style relay and see if it will turn over ! I believe the computer is behind the glove box on that year ! You can follow the large harness in the engine compartment to the bulkhead and that will tell you where in the interior the computer is ! Hope this helps !

Car wount start. When you turn the ignition key it

try a jump start first and see if this works if it does charge or replace the battery if need be if this does not work hit the starter with a hammer the starter is located under the car at the front of the motor rite behind the radiator then try to start the car. if this works or starts to work you need a starter

Engine will not start because immobiliser is active ,even when turned off, when key insered tthe hazerds flash and alrm sounds

disconnect the battery, behind the glove box is a white 4 pin socket, disconnect this, then turn key in ignition to the point just before ignition, reconnect the battery, then turn ignition on, engine should fire, the only problem is you will have to repeat each time you start, best way is to put an immobiliser switch in between the gegative battery terminal and set it on or under the dash, hope this helps
