Check the trigger/exciter wire on the back of the alternator to see if it's broken.

I recently had my starter rebuilt, my alternator checked, new battery put in. All working good but, my battery wont hold a charge. Something is draining my battery. After a hour or so after running it will...

Two possibilities.

First, if the belt running to the alternator isn't tight enough it will slip and won't charge properly. You can check the specs for your specific car but generally when you press halfway on the belt span you shouldn't be able to push in more than about 3/8"

The second guess would be that the alternator is, in fact, faulty in spite of being checked. If the battery is dead after an hour of the car running the alternator isn't putting out anything at all to charge the battery.

I'd try having the electrical system tested at another place. Autozone and Advance Auto will put on a tester for free. The dealer of the car will help too but will be the most expensive.

Good luck.

My battery light came on in my 2007 tundra I had the battery checked its OK. We pulled off the negative.terminal. while it was running to check the altinator and it never loss power so we know its charging...

You cant. That light comes one when the revers polarity diode goes bad inside the alternator. It may still run when the battery is removed. You either need to have your alternator rebuilt, or replaced.
Also, running the car without a battery is not a good way to test your alternator. You can even end up damaging your ECM by doing this. Nest time use a multimeter and see how many volts the alternator is putting out a 2000 RPM. Anything less then 13V it is not charging properly and needs to be diagnosed.

I have a 98 Toyota Avalon that recently had a dead battery at the airport. When the airport lot attendant jumped the car, it cranked weakly for a second and then nothing happened. Numerous jump attemp

The battery needs replacing. Also it confirms that alternator is the issue too.

My battey light is on in my 2001 oldsmobile alero

Did you have the charging system and battery checked first before you started throwing parts at the car? Because I'm start to think that its in the wiring from the alternator to the battery (if the alternator was tested good). the symptoms are pointing to a bad alternator with the car not running after a jump. (the car is running off the battery which doesn't have much a charge and then it dies when the battery voltage drops too low). I would bet that your ignition wire to the alternator is bad (or signal wire) which tells the alternator the car is on and to start charging. I had a similar issue with my Honda and only a technician who rebuilt alternators was able to show me how to test it. Seems like you have a similar issue. Have the alternator and battery tested at any local Autozone and if they both test good I would start with the wiring as I suspect this is the issue you have. One of your alternator wires is the ignition wire which puts 12volts to the alternator (turning on the charging) to allows it to put out voltage to your battery.

Hello. My 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis died on the highway after the battery "alternator?" light coming on about 20 minutes prior. We replaced the alternator with a rebuilt and the light is STILL...

A ford needs a fully charged battery to work the alternator. You may burn out the replacement alternator by hooking it up to a dead battery. Get the battery charged and have it load tested. You may have a bad battery and it should be checked. http://www.cardone.com/english/club/select/electrical/protech/tech_bulletins/PT37-0006.pdf

Why does my battery light stay on after i installed an alternator and new battery

Hi,

The Battery indicator light usually means the alternator is not charging the battery. Most common solutions would be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt.Since the battery and alternator test ok then check the connections to the alternator and battery.
The alternator should have 2 connections.

Good luck...

Car not charging

theres many factors in this what year make and model of car do you have and who reguilt the alternator?
Well for a problem like that you might want to test the alternator it sounds like the regulator inside the alternator is not functioning properly.

Car won't start

Have the charging system checked out .
Have the battery load tested first.
If you want to do this testing yourself its pretty easy.
a) need a fully charged battery (charge battery 3min charge)
b) you need special equiptment to do a load test so the next best thing is open circuit test. Use a DVM
and hook it up to battery you should have min. of 12 volts. if not charge battery or replace it.
c) Leave DVM on battery start car and measure voltage with all accessories on and off should be between 13.5 and 14.5 volts.
If this is ok you know the alternator is charging that battery .
If you don't get 13.5 to 14.5 turn off vehicle and start looking at battery cables and wires behind the alternator for corrosion.
If cables are good and wires behind alternator are good then replace alternator.

1994 grand cherokee ltd. charging problem

Yes that little thing on the alt is the regulator. It tells the alt when to charge and when not to and yes its pcm controlled. You can bypass the pcm but I would not reccomend it. I would say alt is probably bad...Cause that pcm wire dosnt usually cause any issues. Youu can have the alt tested at autozone. They can test it in the car or out although out of the car is a much more thurough test. I would again say al is bad....rebuilt stuff is usually rebuilt with good parts from old units meaning most all the parts are used...
