1996 olds ciera station wagon water in door

Seems the external weather stripping on my windows (all 4 doors) has dried and cracked letting rain/melted snow into the drivers door. ...lots of it. GM has discontinued the parts for this item. Part # 10223529 (drivers side front) # 10205761 (pass side front) So what can I do? I tried vaseline on the rubber parts but they are in bad shape and the "softening" from vaseline hasn't helped.. As I have all power equipped windows door locks etc Im concerned about failure of these and rusting on the door itself.. It's not a little water it's a few quarts as it rains a lot here and it takes a long time for it to drain out, usually a few days to a week in warm weather. Auto wreckers don't have these listed and there isn't any aftermarket parts I can find. Anyone want to try and solve this one?

Thanks for the reply. However the part# mentioned seems to be a soft "rubberized"material better suited for door seals/rear hatch etc. The GM part is a seal for the windows part#10223529 (drivers door) and 10205761 (pass side). It's attached to a polished aluminum strip mounted on the outside of the door and was sold as a complete part. Also I can't seem to find anything in any auto parts store for the wagon ( mines a 2.8 L V6 engine not the 3.1 that is listed in all the parts stores) I don't know if this makes a difference in the size of the part. Again...thanks for your reply

I believe that J C Whitney has the universal strip. It is Style # 43 and is SKU # 1JA819751. It will need to be drilled and fitted. I could be wrong but have ordered a piece for my 95 cutlass. Wish me luck. Tom in Longwood, FL

There is water leaking inside above my passenger side door when it rains pretty hard?

is the water leak allowing the water to wick up into the headliner or is the headliner getting wet without water coming past the weather stripping around the door?

If it is wicking then fix the weather stripping.
If the water is getting headliner wet with out passing the weather stripping then you have a leaking sun roof.

You can the door seal by sitting in the car while you have some spray water (garden hose) gentle at the frontal and upper door seal.
If not leak there inspect seal of sun roof and real seal with correct type of sealant.

The water leaks into my boot and the left or passenger side inside the car leaving huge puddles of water inside. very unpleasant. also the 2007 MX5 convertable - no leaks in roof or rubbers. help please.

  • If water is getting in from the driver's or passenger's window near the soft top weather-strip, shut the door after closing the window. When putting up the hood, lower the windows while you secure the hood latches & then raise the windows. These actions force the window to contact the weather-strip a bit differently than when the window is closed while the door is closed.
  • There are two common places an MX5 will leak water into the interior - where the top meets the windshield frame- and around the windows where they contact the mouldings. Leaks at the windshield frame are usually caused by dirty or damaged mouldings or the latches not being tight enough. Usually you will notice the top will squeak and rattle if it isn't latched down tight.
  • Wetness in the trunk/boot can be caused by a range of factors. 1. Dried out weather-stripping around the trunk. 2. A cracked rain rail on the convertible top. 3. Dried out weather-stripping around the tail lights.
  • There are three mouldings that fit around the window, and water can leak either between them and the window, or between them and the top. Each of these mouldings is attached to a metal 'track' that is secured to the top frame with two screws. The window moulding that is closest to the windshield header is held on by two screws, the others have nothing holding them.
  • Water can collect in the weather-strips due to small crack or splits along the edge of the hood where it folds after a years of regular top-up top-down use. The only real solution is a new hood.

You can actually find NOS weatherstripping for old Saturns at getsaturn parts.com. At least I was able to buy a new one for a 94 last year. It is a website for a Maryland dealer who sells at below regular cost. I have had 5 saturns and they never sold me a bad or wrong part. You could also look around on ebay, but what you would find there is another used leaky one.

They have them at most auto parts places. You might need a self tapping screw to put the new one on.

pop the hood and take out the plastic shroud on the passenger side at the firewall. there is a rubber weather stripping that will direct the rain water off the wind shield other wise the rain will fall directly onto the top of the fan motor then run down onto the carpet. i noticed mine when the fan motor iced up and was about an inch thick of ice. all i did was RTV on the weather stripping to redirect the water good luck.

Replace window

what do you need to know? the small passanger window or door window?
if you are replacing the door window then you need to remove the doos cover on the inside of the car. Then remove the old window base from the tracks. Slowly slide the new window in ( removing the weather stripping on one side) once the window is in roll the windoe all the way down and replace the weather stripping

Weather strip replacement

The door is filling with water? If this is the case then the best way to dry this up is to remove the inner door panel and dry the water up. With the inner panel off this good time to replace the seal. Please keep me info how you make out
