2004 Mercury Mountaineer Problem...wont turn over

I replaced the starter and the battery but it still won't turn over. The starter was a bit worn. the interior gauges flutter up and down when i try to start it. I'm not sure if its a short or possible a bent fly-wheel. any suggestions or comments would be most welcome.... thanx

you hear the starter clicking but it won't turn over. every time i try to start it you can see the bolt on the alternator turn about 1/4 of a revolution. its almost like its seizing on something thats keeping it from completing the cycle.

Had the same problem this morning and have doing some research online this morning. I keep finding the same solution about the battery cables.

Sounds like a power-supply issue. Check loose battery cables and ground wires to the frame and engine.
You may have a shifter interlock problem where the switch that tells the computer the vehicle is in "park" or "neutral" is malfunctioning. Other Ford models had trouble with this.
Does the starter make any noise? A bent flywheel would make all kinds of racket if the starter was actually trying to work.

2004 mercury mountaineer will not roll over

have the head lights on and look at them while someone tries to start it...if they dim your battery is probably bad. If they don't dim you may have a bad solinoid on your starter.

when it won't crank you will need to start at the battery and work your way to the starter checking for voltage

2004 Mercury Mountaineer Problem

ok try to turn the engine from the cranshaft pulley with a tool like a socket and ratchet if you are not hable to turn engine by hand then you have an engine problem, and also check if the batterie cables get hot when trying to start if they do the only thing wrong will be a defective starter or an engine problem
