Yup. Drain coolant, remove belts and the upper timing belt cover. The easiest way is to remove the water pump and housing from the engine and do the rest on the bench. The thermostat and housing will come with it. Make sure you use a NEW gasket on the water pump and a NEW O-ring for the thermostat. Never reuse these parts. DON'T use silicone anywhere in there. When you put it back together the water pump should be torqued at 89 inch-pounds to the housing and the pulley bolts are 15 ft-lbs. The thermostat housing is also torqued at 89 inch-pounds. The thermostat is real easy on the bench, not so easy in the car (hint, hint).
It may be easier and faster to fill the block with coolant through the top rad hose and then top up at the bottle. Don't be surprised if it takes a few days to get all the air out of the system. Hope this helps.
