... Doctor, explores the causes of harsh shifting in automatic transmissions. ... Early diagnosis is important to ...
actually as long as you don't get about 60 mph driving it in 3rd gear is fine. but this is where a good scanner hooked up to make sure the overdrive button is working would help
A couple of things come to mind that can cause the issue you are having;
1. Make sure your transmission fluid level isn't low.
2. If your transmission fluid hasn't been changed in a long time, you could have some deposits built up in the valve body, or the screening could be partially clogged.
3. You may have a faulty shift solenoid/shift motor.
polarcycle is right but there is a speed sensor on the drivers side top of the trans. toward the tail shaft or transfer case. there is as well a sensor inside the trans. itself that is mounted on the web. behind the overdrive band and drum.
At 65000km I had too rebuild my tranny cause it would not shift into od when it did it would become suggish found out it had a cracked drum that covers the od inside the tranny and certain temps affected it .rebuilt it and has been going stronge since have over 300000km on it now and its a 99 xlt 4.0L not the best on gas but reliable to get anywhere
this could mean there is a problem with the transmission,but most times when OD light is flashing it is because the wiring to the OD switch is broken.
is the OD switch on the end of the gear shift lever ?
or does your vehicle have the shifter on console between seats ?
light is not flashing. just doesn't shift to OD
over drive light blinking. won't shift into overdrive. Is it necessarily that the transmission needs rebuilding or will fluid help?
