Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

We are sorry that you are experiencing issues with your Camry.

Personally, I am inclined to believe that your replacement alternator is not designed to provide sufficient amperage output with your electrical draw/usage. You probably have a 60-amp output alternator now installed. More often than not, the lower amperage alternator will not develop overcome a constant draw, like headlights, rear defroster, etc.
The dim and the return is the voltage regulator increasing the voltage.

What you can do:
I would recommend exchanging your current alternator with a 90 amp output alternator to cure this issue.

2007 Yukon XL, 1500 SLT, 4WD, headlights randomly go bright to dim and back very quickly

Yes this can be a normal condition caused by load being applied to the headlights and that lowers the voltage, the lites dim, then the load is removed and the lights brighten. Typical loads that cause this are AC climate control related. Have the Alternator load tested to confirm there is no problem in the charging system. Also have the battery tested, a battery that is starting to fail can cause this problem as well, a failing battery takes a huge amount of charging system power to keep it up, so that makes the lighting see higher spikes in voltage

Hi, i have a 2002 Camry Sportivo, 150,000kms on the clock. Recently had the head gasket replaced. Car is running fine mechanically, but electrically after long periods of driving (25mins plus) the radio...

Hello John, I would say that with the head gasket fix the alternator had to be removed. When it was reinstalled it is possible that the wires were not plugged in, or tightened enough. We now deal with physics, expansion and contraction. After 25 minutes things get hot in this area. Check your wire hook ups at alternator, check for proper ground cable hook up i.e. wire from head to body of car ,check to see if your alternator is working properly, and check your battery condition. I believe your problem is a small one, consisting of oversight. I would be interested in hearing how you made out. GOOD LUCK.

Dim dashboard lights and problem starting

Could be a loose or dirty battery connection, poor battery, or alternator. Check all the cables and connections to your starter. Clean your battery posts. Have your alternator and battery checked. It sounds like you are either running off just the battery or just the alternator. One of them is not right.
