Question about 2001 Pontiac Aztek

1 Answer

Torque Converter I am an origional owner of a 2001 Pontiac Aztek front wheel drive with a 3.4L 185 hp V6 engine. A while back it had started to hesitate when shifting gears (it was especially noticible going up the mountains of Northeast PA.). I hardly feel Overdrive anymore. A friend of mine connected his computer sensor to the Aztek's module located under the dashboard on the driver's side. The resulting reading came up P0742, ' Torque converter clutch circuit stuck on'. My question is what do I do to resolve this. Do I take it to a transmisssion mech., what is a best guestimate on the cost to repair. I am no mechanic so I'd appreciate any feedback before I bring it into the shop.

How do i change the torque converter clutch soleniod in a 2001 pontiac aztak

There is a pan on the drivers side of the transmission. You will need to drop the subframe and drop the trans low enough to get the pan off thought the wheel well. One the side pan is off you will be able to service the solenoid. Lmk

Can a 2001 atzec pontiac 2 wheel drive be pulled behind a motorhome?

Yes it can because it is two wheel drive, therefore it is front wheel drive. If it was all wheel or four wheel drive the answer would be no. But in your case being two wheel drive hook it up, and have happy trails with no worries.

How to change a torque converter

You have to remove either the engine or transmission, whichever's easier. Front wheel drives are usually easier to remove the transmission, which will require removing both CV shafts, brakes, hubs, and struts. You then unbolt the transmission from the engine, slide it back a little, unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel, and drop the transmission out of the bottom of the car, and then you can pull the torque converter off the transmission and replace it.

Where is the torque converter switch located on a 2001 pontiac aztek?

Inside the side cover of the trans. The subframe has to be lowered and so does the transmission.
