Brake Lights My brake lights don't illuminate when I step on the brakes. I have both turn signals, driving tail lights, back-up lights, hazard flashers... Everything but brake lights. I checked and replaced the fuse ~ no good, Checked the plug on the firewall, it's plugged in, The bulbs are good, and the brake display in the back window doesn't light up either. I give up!

The brake lights are engaged by a switch when you press the brake pedal. It is a plunger type switch, then when released, turns on the lights.

It appears that the plunger is not extending and making the connection. Try press on the brake pedal with one hand, and plull out on the switch plunger, see if the lights come on.

You should be able to replace the switch for less than $10

I have a 1989 ford f250 my hazard lights and brake lights don't work but my turn signal and tail lights do what could it be

Hi Jonathan,

I am not positive, but believe your Hazards work on the 'high' element of your tail lights, similar to how your brake lights do. Recall, when your lights are on, your brake lights are at normal illumination; when you press on the brakes, they're on their 'high' mode. If these high elements are burnt out, they won't illuminate; and accordingly neither may your hazards. Again, not certain on the hazards using the high element, but think so.

Good luck.

Check your Hazard flasher button, If you use armor all on surfaces it sometimes causes this problem it gums up around the flasher button. clean this area with warn water .

I have tail lights, brake lights, and hazard flashers but no turn signals even though replaced switch and checked fuses

The turn signal flasher and hazard flasher are different parts.
The turn signal flasher can be hard to find and not always available from a parts store. On some models it is a dealer part.

I have no signals and when brakes lights are on, lose brake light to either side turn signal is set on

Hi!!

If you activate the turn signal switch and you step on the brake pedal, the turn switch (on the steering column) deactivates the brake light to make the signal light more visible. The bulb for the stop and turn lights is the same.

Turn hazard lights ON. If they don't blink, replace turn/hazard flasher, If one or more lights don't come on, replace bulb.

Check fuse and circuit wiring for broken or loose connections. If all looks fine, check following:

If front turn lights work fine, check brake/turn bulbs.

If turn lights come on but don't blink, replace turn signal/hazard flasher.

If front and back turn lights don't come on, replace switch on column.

Let me know how it worked out, Good Luck
