Odd sound in engine

When the car is running a low popping sound emits from the engine, similair to exhuast leak but sounds more like an air pump sound. Tried to isolate it, but cannot seem to find the source. Other then that the car runs great. Anyone know what this problem could be? Thanks.

It can be many things I suspect that it is either a hole in the airbox. . . . .It can also be the exhaust manifold that has developed a hole may have broken off or simply has just become loose.

What causes my jeep to backfire, throw oil out of the dip stick, and for the leak detection pump to stay pumping

hark a 1991, ZJ jeep. it is.

your other post shows 1991. ZJ.
which engine? 4.0L inline 6? ????????????????

engine dipstick? i presume?
odd sounds?
backfire to where, air cleaner or the muffler tail pipe section?
if to Air cleaner that is gross engine timing error.
or valves, burned up or sticking. in head. no engine stated. so.. cant wax smarter.

backfire to muffler or tail pipe end, is muffler explosions, caused by too much fuel landing there
and air leaks in the exhaust path,,,, a whole other set of problems... (air = fuel = boom, there.)

"throws oil out of the dip stick" engine?
PCV valve clogged, or far worse.causes oil likes
or oil filler cap off to act odd.
also caused by gross engine failure.
do a compression test. now.

"leak detection pump" in 1991,?
not sure what pump you have in mind at all
why not post a photo of it.
with friend pointing to it

1991 has no LDP pumps. (EVAP)

Why does my 2000 Nissan Quest emits humming sound when engine run

Most likely, that is the sound of the FUEL PUMP. If the car is running well, don't worry about it. Try changing your fuel filter to see if that helps (usually does).
If you have trouble with fuel delivery at high speeds or under load, suspect that your fuel pump is about to fail.

My Liana got a problem of Back fire I changed ignition coil first then i Change their complete head but problem remain same?

Back fire back to where, the intake or exhaust.
intake backfire is a pop sound, not too loud, and is bad timing.
exh backfire means, fuel plus air is in the exh.
and explodes with a loud report , we call it muffler explosing to help
with clear meaning.... in this latter example
you have a bad running motor (rich as pig) a dead CAT and exhuast air leak
all at the same time.

Two of the catalytic converters of my kia sorento jeep get red hot. My check enging light is always glowing while driving. The vehicle emits a whistling sound on throtling and the vehicle power is ver

If you scan the error codes what does it say? You can get this done at any autoparts store (chain) for free. However it sounds to me like there is some air restriction in the intake that is causing the loss of power and the exhuast is running rich. This causes the catalytic converter to overheat. You need to be mindful that any leaks of fluid near the catalytic converter can cause a fire and the loss of the entire vehicle when they get this hot.

The sound is the heater getting air in it from air in the cooling system. Have the system pressure tested for leaks.

Black smoke from the exhuast when acelerating

Hi! You may have a faulty ECU (engine control unit). The ECU controls the air and fuel ratio, if its faulty it can really emits black smoke. Hope this helps and good luck!

Exhaust pops

Your right maybe but removing the gas cap will equalize any pressure. It's more likly that the inside baffle thats inside may have come loose or part of the fuel pump or gauge unit came loose. The fuel pump can make some odd sounds too but if it is don't expect it to last much longer. Does the car still run OK ? It may have a partly clogged fuel filter and the pump is working way to hard to pump the fuel and making noise doing its job.
