1999 GMC Jimmy Startup problem

Im having a serious issue with my recently purchased Gmc Jimmy. It won't start unless I put starter fluid inside the throttle-plate,then the engine will catch on. Now,even if I put the fluid, truck wont start anymore.Acts like if its running out of fuel because the engine shakes violently then dies. I dont think its the fuel pump(who knows?) because HOW was I able to drive 50 miles from Sacramento to Stockton?it ran smooth. Now this problem came up. Had the Fuel Pump removed and there is a wire inside the container that is sorta burnt. Fuel gauge always marks full even if its not.....and the guy I bought it from says it could be the fuel pump or the relay switch.PLEASE HELP!!

I have a 1999 GMC Jimmy that has been nothing but problems. We bought it used 2 years ago and very short after had to replace the fuel pump. We've also replaced the radiator and most recently the heater core went out. We by-passed it until winter and then had to break down and get it fixed. At the same time we were having it fixed, the vehicle began to be sluggish to start. Most times it would take two tries so we had the mechanic look at that too and he said it was some type of censor that cost $15.00 to replace and he allegedly did that. Now, the heater works great but the vehicle wouldn't start unless we sprayed starter fluid into ???whatever----my cousin who works on vehicles on the side said that's horrible for a vehicle long-term. We did it for about a week and then decided to let him look at it. He hooked it up to a computer and said the oxygen sensor (front and back) needed to be replaced. Come to find out one of them was melted due to the use of the starter fluid. He replaced those and it was still not wanting to start like it should. He then said it could be the spark plugs. Those were replaced and it still isn't starting right. I'm soooo done with this vehicle and am not really willing to spend anymore money on it. He thinks now it may be mass air flow censor & someone else says it could be the fuel pump. Whatever!!!

I have the same problem in a 1998 Jimmy. it won't start up and run on it's own. I found that if I put some gas in the throttle body and then replace the airhorn before trying to start it, it starts right up. I believe it's an air/fuel mixture problem, but I am looking for any ideas. I would think that as common as this seems to be, someone would know what is causing this.

My friend had the same type of symptoms, there is a spider wed style od hoses under the intake that delivers fuel to all the cylinders that he found to have hairline cracks in it. Found out this is a know problem especially in the 4.3L Vortex

The hairline cracks make sense. We don't need starter fluid. Just a squirt of gas. We put a 3/16th hole in the top of the air intake cover above the throttle plate. A squirt of gas and it starts right up. Once it starts it runs fine. We have replaced the pump and the filter. We have pulled the spider assembly and cleaned it. We did not look for cracks. You may have solved it for us. Thanks. We will take it out again!! AAARRRGH.

Check the plugs.
when you put starting fluid into the car you burnt them.
check'em all, clean them out.
and i will recommend to change the fuel filter.
see how it does and if problem persist then it is your pump, it's not death but is dying.

My 1999 gmc jimmy won't start, it makes a clicking noise when I try to start it and had plenty of juice to battery, is it my starter or maybe my water pump?

No ,the water pump has nothing to do with it , Maybe the battery cable or connections at the battery ! You need to have a technician do a starting system voltage drop test ! Engine Won Start No Crank Diagnosis Troubleshooting Starting System Issues

Why does 2001 gmc jimmy won't start unless primed why won't 2001 jimmy start

you say it won`t start unless primed I take it you have to supply a fuel source. if so check fuel pressure as the pump maybe failing.

When trying to start my 1999 GMC Jimmy I turn the egnition and all my aux. lights turn on and everything works, but there is no power going to my starter, it doesn't make the clicking sound and it...

check for power to starter solinoid, if power to there. then it has to be a bad starter solinoid or starter. checker solinoid first. if bad you will not hear any clicks or anything.

My 1998 GMC jimmy won't start without starter fluid sprayed in the air intake on top of the motor.a small sprits and she starts right up.what do i need to prevent that everytime startup issue.

Your fuel pump isn't putting out enough gas to turn over motor it needs over 14lbs per square inch of pressure to start even though it only needs 12 to keep running. you will have to replace fuel pump.get acdelco and you ill never have to replace again.

1995 Gmc Jimmy Starting Problem

If the engine is using a carburetor, the top gasket maybe leaking evaporating the fuel in the bowl. Check or replace the solenoid switch on the starter body.
