You are correct it is a fuel problem/getting to much fuel,if its carborated i would try to adjust it to lean it out a bit.if its fuel injected i would try to get smaller injectors or reduce the fuel pressure.

What are the symptoms and differences between vapor lock and flooding. 1995 Chevy Silverado 1500 2 wheel drive extended cab short bed

Vapor lock only happens when the vehicle is hot. Flooding at start up, you smell gas. If it is over fueling threw the carb/throttle, then you will see lots of black smoke out of the tail pipe when running.

Will not start after warm-up

Try putting a fuel pressure gauge on the injector fuel rail. Start the engine then turn it off, the pressure should hold steady not drop to zero. If it drops you have a bad injector leaking fuel into the engine. Also smell the oil to see if it smells like gas.

Car will not start bu,t will turn over can smell gas and ,it want to start more if the pedel is to the floor

sounds like its not firing right possible its your coil pack when you smell gas that means its flooded you might as well wait a while when you smell gas like that before you turn it over more but it could also be one more thing it could be you have a gas leak and its not getting enough gas but thats a slim chance

454 ci gm turns over hard backfires timing ok acts flooded

Check fuel pressure, and regulator. A leaking regulator gives a warm engine more fuel [ it does not like it] a cold motor does. same as a flooded motor. Good luck

Starting problem after engines warm smell gas

I had the same problem. It may start to or already is stalling as you slow down or stop. I changed my fuel pressure switch located right on the fuel rail on top of the motor. It's about $80.
