no car told nor year, 100 years of cars. and zillion models world wide.
what does this mean? wheel turns 360deg.???????????
same answer for all cars like that, this is not new, its 100 years old.
the story is.
happened to me vast times in 55 years, of driving and 10x more helping others. it is in fact OLD HAT..
the works is start and run and stay running , it does not work like a computer (turns on)
it is a serial process.
the battery bad can work and then not work and then be ok
batteries can do many things
like dead, or weak or intermittent but yours seems ok it does crank and is super good test if in fact it cranks robustly. fast
but no starts are complex but lit me reduce that to a short macro list.;
1: bad engine (timing belt slipped and service points ignored.+++
2: bad or weak spark or or intermittent. (use a scan tool)
3: bad fueling , too much flooded, or too little lean starvation.
each of these have a set of tests and tools any ASE mech tech uses
to find true cause and none that you own.
if the engine flood learn to use WOT to clear it out
crank engine with with WOT, wide open throttle a hard right foot pressed in the throttle pedal.
no not crank over 15 seconds as that overheats the starter motor.
and lots more to type here but I refuse to put up 3 years of ASE training in a WALL OF TEXT ,not me. (and 50 years hands on)
cranking is turning the engine over
from you misinterpretation of the term the problem is that it is cranking but not running
if that is correct then yes the cam shaft position sensor may very well be the cause of the not running at times as it controls the ignition and injector operation , the same as the crank shaft position sensor
could be a loose connection that has now come apart or the sensor has finally reached a point of failure that it needs to be replaced
Does it crank, yet not start? Or does it not even crank? If it cranks and doesn't start, you could have a leaky fuel injector. Pull the plugs when this happens, and check them for fuel saturation.
If it doesn't even crank, it could be an intermittent starter.
Here are some things that I have run into.
First any sensor cam/crank/tps etc..) that has a reference voltage from the pcm can cause this issue these sensors,(ESPECIALLY THE CRANK SENSORS or CAM Sensor) CAN SHORT OUT INTERNALLY.
THIS WILL CAUSE A NO START CONDITION AND A "NO COMMUNICATION" ISSUE
WITH THE PCM causing stalling. here are some things that I have run into. This condition has caused numerous unneeded pcm replacements. It gets difficult to diagnose when its an intermittent problem.sometimes a tech will install the pcm and let
the jeep leave. Then when temp is right, the sensor shorts and it all
happens again. Often by the time the jeep shows up on the hook the
engine has cooled and the short is gone. In this case the tech has
nothing to go on. YOU MOST LIKELY WONT HAVE A CODE HERE.
THIS IS HOW I DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. WHEN THE CONDITION IS PRESENT (NO COMMUNICATION") with THE KEY ON, START
DISCONNECTING EACH SENSOR THAT HAS A REFERENCE VOLTAGE. START WITH THE
CRANK SENSOR. IF YOU SEE THE SCANNER GET COMMUNICATION, THEN YOU FOUND
THE SHORTED SENSOR.this CAN BE A PAIN IN THE @** IF THE CONDITION IS INTERMITTENT.
PLEASE NOTE: IT IS EXTREMELY RARE THAT THE PCM ITSELF HAS CAUSED THIS
CONDITION. 99% OF THE TIME ITS A SENSOR SHORTING OUT, WIPING OUT ALL
COMMUNICATION.
ALSO NOTE:I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS CONDITION ACTUALLY DAMAGE THE PCM.
ONCE THE SHORTED SENSOR IS REPLACED, THE PCM IS FINE. THERE IS A
RESISTOR IN THE PCM THAT PROTECTS IT FROM THIS. Good Luck and IHope this will help resolve your issue. Please Rate Me. For any further assistance you can always ask me
