Question about 1992 Nissan Pathfinder

The fuel and temperature guages do not work. Is there a voltage dropping resistor (or some other electronic part) hidden somewhere that I might check for continuity?

Thank you!

Pull out the speedometer dash board and check the voltage regulator for the instrument pannel located behid the dash board. While you are at it, check to see there are no broken ribbons in the plastic ribbon piece containing the circuits.

Terrano gearbox keeps jumping out of overdrive and

Nissan Terrano's have an Electronic Computer that controls the gearbox. It is hidden behind the left hand rear Speaker box, right hard up against the rear seat back rest. This system controls all functions regarding the gearbox and it's rev rates. If your vehicle is shifting back on long drives then it is possible that the computer sees any slight increase in revs as a desire to "Kickback" the gearbox to a lower gearing, hence it dropping out of overdrive. Unfortunately a gearbox specialist with a computer "Plug-in" is needed to fix this, but it is fixable. This problem should not be too expensive in comparison with a new gearbox.

Fuel an temperature gauge quit working

There is a voltage regulator for the instruments, usually located on the back of the instrument panel. This may be kaput or it may just have corroded/loose connections. I would check this first.

Fuel and Temperature Guages

Have your alternator output checked; the voltage regulator might be failing.
You can check it easily across the battery terminals.
You shouldn't have any more than ~ 14.3 volts at any revs., and about 12.6 with the engine off.

If it checks out OK, the next step would be to access any plugs to the instrument panel, pull the connectors apart and then replug them.
You may have a flaky ground under the dash too.
