My 1990 Jaguar xj6 Sovereign won't start. On Thursday, I drove home from work and it ran great. That evening, I went out to start the car and it tried to run, but kept dying. I've checked all fuses and they are good. I pulled the panel off of the dashboard on the passenger side and checked what I believe is the fuel pump relay. I connected a wire from post 85 on the relay to the positive post on the battery, then a wire from post 86 on the relay to the negative post on the battery. The relay clicks as though it is working correctly. I checked for power to the fuel pump using a test light. I connected the test light to the terminal on the pump and, with power on, I touched the other shaft of the test light to ground. No power. Where could the problem be?

Obviously, the pump is not receiving any power and your rube goldberg is not doing the trick. Get a hold of a schematic and you will do the job right. In the meantime just hookup a wire from the battery plus terminal to the pump plus terminal with a on/off switch so you can turn the pump on and off manually.

The inline fuel pump fuse on the passenger side firewall is good? Are you jumping it with 12 volts at the test lead or the fuse?
