Car leaking coolant

I have a 97 cadillac catera. It just started leaking coolant from somewhere behind the motor. Can you help me with what may be causing this?
Thank you

Water had to be added every 2 days on average. Can not see where exactly it is leaking, but some one told us that it was coming from behind the engine. What is behind the engine that could be leaking and how do we go about fixing it ourselves, if that is even possible. We were told that the engine may need to be pulled to get to it.

Ran some Bar's stop leak through the system two separate occasions, the first time it fixed the problem for about 3 months, the second time did not work at all!

First of all ensure that your car is leaking coolant fluid, and what is dripping is not just water condensation from the air conditioner.
If you have a coolant liquid leak, it can be from one of the ducts leading to radiator , from water pump or radiator itself. Check liquid levels, and if you have a leak have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic.
A broken water pump, for example, can cause your motor to blow in few miles.

I had the same problem with my 97 cadillac catera. I thought it was leaking Transmission fluid or oil because thats what it looked like. I noticed that my coolant level was low and had to refill it every 2-4 days. It leaked more so when the engine was running hot.

The problem I have is that my heater core was leaking. It didn't leak in the floorboard so I didn't think it could have been that. But then I noticed that when I ran my heater I smelled anti-freeze and there were anti-freeze spots on my window from running the defrost setting.

First check all of the coolant hoses on the back of the motor, going from the engine to the heater core to see if you can find any leaking anti-freeze. If I recall, I believe that their are two hoses that come out of the back of the engine that go to the heater core.

If all check out fine then I believe it is your heater core.

normally heater cores run about $180 - $230 for a Cadillac Catera.

I hope this helps!

I own a 98 cadillac catera and

First check for any leakage from your radiator, hoses or overflow tank.

If it were a freeze plug you'd not be able to miss the puddling spillage. Where if it were a head gasket the coolant and fuel / oil would mix and you'd be driving a mobile smoke generator { very noticeable while smoke }

If you can't see the leak take it in for a coolant system pressure test. Which will pinpoint where your vehicle is losing coolant.

Engine problem

sounds like no fuel pressure, I had the same problem . theres a molded fuel line between the pump and sending unit inside the tank that was split. , Basically I had a fuel leak inside the gas tank, 2 test pressure the connection is on the fuel rail behind the motor , it should be 40-50 psi

Coolant leak

You should be able to, so yes. If you have a coolant leak the pressure will build and slowly decrease or it will not get to the correct pressure. Unless the leak is in the radiator cap itself as the pressure tester generally uses a different cap.

Coolant leak

you will need to start the car and if you cannot see where it is leaking from try using a mirror to see in behind the engine as it could be leaking from a numbe of places, such as a hose, a head gasket, a frost plug. hint that a head gasket will usually cause the vehicle to release white smoke out of the exhaust pipe. I hope that this helps and that you take the time to rate this site, Good luck.
