My caR needs a water pump but mechanics keep telling me i need the timing belt with it its that truth ? 1997 for contour 4 cylinder 2.0

they say that a in a lot of cases when the belt is behind the pump its to save labor cost it all depends on how many miles are on the belt i think 50,000 is the avg for those if you have more than than 75,000 its not a bad idea and it can save you the stress of it breaking and paying the labor twice

Car stalls when driving

Take notes , when this happens.
For instance : engine warm or cold , outside conditions (cold , hot) , car driven for a while , long or short distance when problem occures etc.... , that may help for diagnosis.
It very well may be temperature relaited , sience it has to sit (cool off) for 5 min.
Ignition coils sometime do that.
I'm mechanic shop owner and intermittent problems are the hardest one , so any piece of iformation on above mentioned events may give a clue.
Good luck.
Greg.
