More likely It's just the belt tensioner engaged whenever it starts. Try replacing it if you have the tools and a little bit of knowledge on how to do it and go to this link for further instructions.

When ever I am driving down the road and I accelerate, my check engine light starts flashing. Why?I have a 2001 hyundai accent, 1.5L engine 5 speed. It flashes for about 10 seconds and then stops.

it means you are doing irrepairable damage to the catalytic converter, you should take your car and have the trouble codes retrieved, sounds like you need an Oxygen sensor
