I do not find any fuses in that area. The only fuses I find are in the engine compartment pass. side

    towards the front.

Thanks for your reply. It's the digital readout that is not working. Although it is intermitant. Mostly not working. The switches light up as they should. Climate control also works fine.

The Climate Control system works all the time. The digital display will either come on or not when the car is started. It will not come on (if it's off) by hittig a bump or what ever. It will stay off until I start the car next time. It seems to be off more than on. If it tuns on at statup it will stay on.

How do I remove the unit from the dash to check for a loose connector or bad solder connection ?

    Thanks for the help.

I have tried pushing on various places with the car running. There is no change, nothing happens. Stein

Thanks for the reply. It's starting to sound like I need to take it to the dealer to check it out

Do you mean the backlighting for the buttons,or the digital readout,or both?If it is the backlighting,it should be just a bulb.It depends on a couple things of how easy it will be to replace the bulb.Where it is located, how the dashboard is built, and how much you know about access to the dash.It should be somewhat easy to get at since these are normally in the center or lower half of the dash and you should not have to take the whole thing out just to replace the bulb. Please let me know completely what is out on that panel. This should noway be just a fuse as it would cause more lights to go out.Greg

Since the display works intermittent, and the climate control does not(not mentioned anyhow),the LCD display works fine and a loose connector on the plug into the climate control would likely cause the climate control to cause intermittent operation of the whole system. With all of that,it is most likely a bad solder in the illumination circuit. If it cuts out, when going over bumps especially, that would be a good indication of it(or the connector if the whole system also works intermittent).A bad solder could be a 'cold' solder also. This happens when the solder was applied not quite at a good melting point for it or just plain bad solder. The ideal solder to use is rated 63/37.The 2 metals involved are lead and tin.The 2 numbers represent the % of each metal.I don't remember which is which though.Greg

It is night now, sorry.A quick check may determine how the display is connected. While the car is running, push in on the display, wiggle it around a little, trying different directions as well as in and out all at once and see if anything changes, flickers,or whatever may happen,or if nothing does happen.Greg

This could be problem involving the ignition switch also.Whether there is a straight shot from the ignition to the climate control,or something in between to tell the CC that the car is on.It seems more likely that it would be a straight shot.

A regular shop would likely be cheaper but just whatever you are comfortable with.If you do go to a regular shop,I would at least make sure they are AAA approved. There are very good standards required to keep that which involves constant training on updated system changes.Good luck,Greg

Replace the fuse located underneath the drivers side steering wheel. Flip the fuse box cover lid over and you will find a diagram. Pull the climate control fuse and replace it with the same number fuse and your display will light back up on your climate control panel

The climate control is lighted from inside by tiny miniature bulbs that are soldered to the circuit board of the control, u can buy the bulbs at radio shack if u have the skill and a professional grade soldering pencil and solder vacuum vacuum, if u don't have the skill to do this u can ruin the circuit board and then the control is so much junk. the bulb number from radio shack is
#7219 Micro Lamp

If the front one is working fine, that means you have a flap actuator problem for the rear or bad therm device.

I have a 1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. This spring...

If the a/c does not engage as a result of the electronic control system in your 1996 Cadillac, the climate control system may need to be replaced.

However, if the problem is being caused by low charge of R134a in the system, have the system charged before changing that electronic part.

I have never seen a Cadillac Climate Control System do this, which leads me to believe that it may be more electronic than refrigerant pressure related.

If the refrigerant pressure was low in the system, the climate control system should still stay on 'auto' mode, I think, and simply blow warm air.

Electrical Problem with 90' Cadillac Sedan Deville

the climate control is intergrated through the pcm and ecm i would advise you to take the vehicle to the service shop they have a diagnostic scanner that will access the ecm and either clear a code that prevents the climate control from working or find a more severe problem that requires you to replace the hole unit. please rate this solution. thank you and good luck.
