Consult your manual, it is in the glove box. if it is not there you can buy one for less than the price of a lunch at a local junkyard or on ebay

Yes / No ! They make a conversion kit for those cars, it converts to springs and shocks. I don't think the ride is the same, probably better.

How do I replace the rear shocks on my 97 Lincoln Town Car

Is there a spring on the outside of the shock???? If so then it is really a strut and you will have to take it to a qualified service dealer. If no spring, it is pretty easy to do. Jack up the car, put jack stands under the rear axle, remove the nut on the bottom of shock and the bolts on the top and slide the shock out. Install the top of the shock first (if a gas shock) when you cut the wire tie that is holding the shock compressed, you have to line it up with the bottom bolt as it is coming down.

No. The Lincoln Continental does not have air bags in the front. It is not exactly hard to convert the rear airbags to springs. It is more time consuming than anything. I have a 1996 Town Car, I had a mechanic replace the air shocks with springs.

When converting from air bags to regular shocks on a 95 lincoln towncar do you need the coil springs also?

The car sits on the springs, not on the shocks. Shocks just dampen
the springiness, if that is a word. So if the car is not going to sit on an airbag, then it is going to need springs. There is a canadian company named strutmasters which sells complete kits to do this swap. They have a website.

Airbags are the safety device that blow up to keep you from dying in a crash.

Hello, you must turn the system off,in the trunk. Then you must support the car with jacks. With the vehicle raised the bolts on the bottom of the airbag must be removed.Put another jack under the side of the suspension you are removing. Then undo the shock and it should come out. Then dis connect the air line and remove the airbag.

How to take rear shocks off of a 98 lincoln town car ?

You need a long reach 15mm or 17mm spanner, if you turn your air ride of jack the rear of the car look just over the rear wheel you will see the top of the shock, but if it turns then just cut the plastic cover on the shock & use mole grips to hold & turn the shock this should take about 25 mins to do the whole job both sides.
