1998 Nissan Maxima thermostat housing leaking why

Over time, vibration and the constant heating/cooling cycles of an engine break down the best of gaskets. Most newer thermostats use a rubber gasket and these will shrink and crack over time, allowing leaks.

I put in a new thermostate after my maxima overheated but its still over heating.

Check the water pump - it might not transport enough cooling fluid as it used too.

Car is overheating. Not sure if I should replace

If your car is leaking coolant from the water pump. Replace the water pump. If not replace thermostat first. It is the cheapest out of the 2.

Think in need to replace the thermostate

locate the thermostat housing.usally located at the other end of the top radiator hose.remove the two or three bolts holding it.if u havent drained sum fluid it will leakwhen u remove.have new gasket and thermostat handy pull old out an replace. thats it.When replaceing bolts DON'T over tighten its easy to crack thermostat houseing.replace the colant u lost make sure no leaks. parts are cheaps!!!should be pretty easy.

if you have a blown head gasket you would have a miss
the waterpump can look good and still be bad
after you replace the thermostate fill the radiator and leave the cap off start the car let it get too operating temp and check for flow if you have good flow shut the car off and and put a pressure terter on the raidator this will tell of and leaks

Check or have the electric cooling fan or fans checked, to see if they are coming on, and the radiator cap checked. You've done everything else.
