Question about 2005 Ford Explorer

We have a 2005 ford explorer that has the spark plug wires connected to the distributor cap incorrectly. we just need the correct order to connect the plugs to the distributor cap

Okay, lets start with the wires they are connected to the coilpack theres no distributor on the year ford, heres the sparkplug wire location, hope this helps, heres a diagram,we have a 2005 ford explorer that has the spark - acefab9.gif8b4f223.gif

The 2005 Ford Explorer offered 2 engine choices: the 4.0 V-6 and the 4.6 V-8. The V-8 has coil packs. The V-6 has a distributor. The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6. Clockwise rotation, When standing in the front of the vehicle the cylinders are numbered 1-3 up the passenger's side and 4-6 up the driver's side.

How to Connect sparplug wires in the correct fireing order?


The firing order is 1342 Number 1 should be marked on the distributor cap . start from there , notice the direction the rotor turns, next terminal on the caps goes to number 3 cylinder and so on. to find number one if the cap is not marked do the following. remove number 1 spark plug and turn engine over till compression is felt, line up the timing marks on the crank pulley and timing cover. remove the dist. cap the rotor is now pointing to number 1 position on the cap.

Not sure how to replce spark plug wires from the distributor need help please send info


change one spark wire at a time on the distributor.buy new set of spark plugs wires remove them from box.match old wires with new wires to use the correct length to each cylinder.now if you need to change distributor cap.mark location distributor cap.number tag plug wires on the distributor cap so you can remove plug wires on distributor cap so you can replace cap and rotor and put wires back on the distributor cap in correct place.remember change one plug wire at a time so you wont get confuse.

My 98 exployer is misfiring on all 6 cycdeers but runs fine after warmed up

I took of*** my spark plug wires working on my small block 350 pickup and I don't remember the the firing order to put the new wires back on. Is there a diagram anywhere or is it even that difficult to...


Next time number each lead before you remove it and no. the dissy cap as well

The firing order, which should be cast into the intake manifold, for the chevy small block V8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The firing order is the numerical sequence in which the spark plugs are fired. The insertion position of each spark plug wire around the circumference of the distributor cap can be found according to a clock face. The insertion sequence determines the firing order. The firing order is followed clockwise around the distributor cap starting from the 6:30 position with the 6:30 position being the number one cylinder spark plug wire.
On classic chevy small block engines that use ignition breaker points instead of electronic ignitions, the number one cylinder is the one immediately clockwise of the small metal sash cover on the distributor cap. The firing order starts here. There is no sash cover on the distributor cap for GM HEI electronic ignitions, and the firing order is the same, but starting at the 5:30 position.
The firing order makes sense if you know how the cylinders are numbered. The number one cylinder is the front most on the drivers side and 2 being the front most on the passenger side. From front to back, the cylinders are odd numbered on the drivers side, and even numbered on the passenger side.

We would connect the number one spark plug wire to the distributor cap terminal in the 6:30 position. distributor.pngSince the next cylinder in the firing order is 8 (passenger side rear), we connect the number 8 spark plug wire to the next distributor cap terminal (approximately 7:30 position) in the clockwise direction from number one. You need to be sure you continue the firing order in the clockwise direction around the chevy small block distributor cap from the last installed spark plug wire. Setting the rest of the firing order is just a matter of repetition. Be sure to count the spark plugs from front to back on each side of the motor to identify the correct cylinder number in the firing order.

2005 explorer 4.0 eng Service eng. soon light came on took it to autozone. The computer said #5 cylinder missfiring. Put new plugs & wires didn't make a difference. Checked compression this morning...


Changeout the rotor button and cap. the cap has carbon pins under there and wear down from the rotor button. The rotor button sits on the distributor which is easily pulled off. When removing these be sure the plug wires stay in order, Also, use di-electic grease on the plug wires, prevents moisture getting there and run away sparks. CAP/ROTOR button $20 approx.

On the 3.2L distriburorless ignition, the firing order is a straight 1-2-3-4-5-6.
