Question about 1995 BMW 5 Series

I did a direct motor swap in my 1995 525it. I know that the motor I put in is good because I heard it run. The problem I am having is that it won't stay running. Vaccuum lines are good and if I feather the throttle, it will stay running. If I don't, it will die.

You have a vac leak somewhere. Did you hook up the vac line to the power brake booster>? This is a commonly forgotten issue

Do I have to have the brain relearned after swapping out motors.

If everything on both engines were the same, no reprogramming should be required. The engine should start, and it may take a few minutes for the engine to run smoothly since there are going to be some differences in the way the "new" engine performs. I would guess that there is some connection to the engine that is loose or missing. You said it has fuel and fire. The only other thing needed is air. And unless you are in a vacuum, it should start.

1999 ford ranger power windows not working.

If the windows worked well before but became intermittent, I'd be checking the switches. You can also power the motors with jumpers to insure the motors work. If the brushes are worn, you can sometimes make the window work one last time by giving the door a good thump to jar the armature and possibly get better brush contact.

For a direct bolt in swap, it needs to be the same chassis/frame, not body. Otherwise you'll need to find a swap kit to put it into anything else. Or make your own mounts like I do. I put a 383 small block High Performance engine I built into a 1974 AMC Javeline AMX and OMG is this baby a supercar. I made my own motor mounts out of steel plates welded together and bolted solid to engine and frame.

Hondas all have a fuse and blower relay located in the battery junction block. You can try swapping relays around if the fuse is good. Then verify the blower motor is good by disconnecting it and applying 12v directly to the motor. If this checks good, check for 12v at the blower connector while disconnected, (key on/fan on). Had a CRV in the shop a few days ago with the exact same issue, power to the motor but a weak ground signal. Replaced the blower resistor.

Have a salvage yard check their inter-change manual to see if it is a straight swap. If they say no, it won't, just means it won't be a straight swap. You may still be able to use the block and heads, and swap any necessary parts from your old engine to the new one. I'm thinking a lot of sensors and parts may have different connectors and possibly calibrations, between the two engines.

There were stars in your question after the word "and" but i'm guessing you meant motor and transmission. You can swap the motor but a 4X4 transmission won't work. You would have to completely disassemble it to change the tailshaft. However that style of transmission would fit as long as it was for a 2WD vehicle. My Chilton shows your body style, an "F"body coming with both a 305 and a 350 so GM parts should be available in scrap yards to make the swap easy. Hope this helps.

Both power windows on the driver side do not roll down. I can't afford to repair yet. So if it's the motor, can I swap the motor from the passenger side rear to the driver side front?

Window fuse's and relay's may be up under driver or passenger side dash or behind glove box, under the hood and even under the seats, and finally on the ends of the dash. All passenger power windows are controlled thru and get power from the master control switch on the drivers door.

Drivers door window gets used the most so it could be the motor, window switch, relay or fuse.
Could also be a broken wire in the rubber boot going from the door to the body. You will have to eliminate each till you find the culprit. Check that all switches return to neutral when released.
The motor and the relay are the most likely to cause this problem. Try swapping the relay with a working window relay. If it still doesn't work, remove the door panel and remove the window motor.
Turn the motor shaft in both directions by hand several turns. Then plug the motor in and see if the switch will now run the motor. Sometimes that's all it takes to get it working again. I have had to do this with brand new motors. If voltage is not present at the motor connector, either a bad switch or a broken wire exists. Make sure to check for voltage coming to that windows switch. Actually, GM use's a circuit breaker type relay for each window and one fuse for all the circuit breakers.

Try this....
Open the door, turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine and everything that makes noise is off. Lean down placing your ears close to the bottom center of the door or at the speaker grill. Press the window switch UP and DOWN. Listen for the window motor. If heard the drive is damaged. If not heard, turn key off and locate and replace the relay with one of the other window relays. Check window again. If it works now, get a new relay. More often than not, removing the motor and turning it by hand will get it working good as new. I have had to do that with Brand New motors! So try it.
If all has failed, with the door panel still off, check for voltage at the motor connector when pushing the window switch. No voltage means its the switch, especially if its a auto down or up switch.

You may also find that the connector has simply come loose from the master window control. Good luck!!
