If you have a cable going up to the throdel body or carborator it only has a lock-up switch. Comonly if it shorts out, the dome light fuse will blow. If it shorts, the truck will still shift.

check the fluid levels first. They could be low or have bubbles. Low trans fluid is most likely. Bubbles can be a bad valve body.

Why transmission not shifting

run the fault codes and check for TCM problems or torque converter clutch solenoid /servo problems. Have a pressure test done on the transmission to determine for mechanical problems.. Check the condition of the oil and it brown have it changed.

You have an internal problem within the transmission, check the smell of the fluid, if it is burned then you will need to rebuild or replace your transmission.

Trans slipping in reverse oniy

Hello rotti..... When the transmission slips the belts within have to be tightened. Also check the transmission fluid level. If the level is less than full do fill it to the full mark and then take it into a transmission shop for a transmission tuneup.

I do not recommend tightening the transmission yourself unless you have a lift and the equipment to do it. Joe

I know you need to drain/refill and probably change the filter on a typical automatic trans. How do you do this on a 1990 K1500 with the automatic? What is the service interval?

Eratic Transmission shifting

is this a stick? either way , bad synchro in 1st to 2nd gear... Engine idle is affected when sitting still and applying brakes.... thats normal
