I have a 1995 v4 auto. honda accord. It runs hot

With overheating problems, yes. Even if it doesn't fix the problem, the thermostat could be damaged by high temperatures.

If it doesn't fix it, check and make sure the electronic fans operate properly; the relays that operate them tend to fail due to age.

first it should have a thermastat installed, second - the second fan doesn't kick in until the engine reaches a certain temperature

Does the thermostat go in between the rubber gasket or in front of it when installing it on a 1995 Honda Accord?

The rubber gasket actually has a groove and it wraps around edge of thermostat when installing you will notice rubber gasket has two "nipples"that stick out, if you look at casting where t-stat goes youll see matching notches in it. this is where nipples rest and align t-stat

Follow the bottom radiator hose from the bottom up and where it ends at the fire wall is where the thermostats is, also right beside it is the bleeder valve.
