Question about 1987 Pontiac Firebird
I have a 1987 pontiac trans am. When the car warms up the fuel to the carb. quits. The engine is a 305 V8 with a 4 barrell quadrajet Carb. I inspected the gas lines, there was no problem. I replaced the coil, the fuel filter, the carb. the ignition module, the mechanical fuel pump, the spark plugs, the distributor, the distributor cap, the rotor button, and it still does the same thing. When it warms up it cuts off going down the road after "pulling back" like a misfiring cyl. and no fuel is delivered to the engine through the carb. It keeps pulling up two codes, one is the throttle position sensor, the other is lean exhaust. The new carb had a new throttle position sensor, and I checked the settings on it with a volt meter and everything with the trottle position sensor is running fine and at the correct voltage. I have never run into this before and I am at a loss, can someone help me?
I HAD SAME PROBLEM MY 87BIRD I HAD TO REMOVE THE FUELTANK AND REMOVE THE SOCKSCREEN OFF THE ELEC.FUELPUMP THE OTHER 87BIRD I HAD TO EXTEND THE HOSE TO BOTTOM OF TANK.ONE I CHANGED FROM FUEL-INJECTION TO 4-BB Q-JET ONE I LEFT ELEC.PUMP IN JUST REMOVED SOCK STILL WILL WORK.MY PROBLEM WAS SAME IT WOULD START AND IDLE FINE,IT WAS WHEN I TOOK IT DOWN THE ROAD IT WOULD DIE ABOUT A BLOCK AWAY.BELIEVE ME I WENT THRU EVERYTHING ALSO.HOPE TO OF HELPED OUT

Your idle air control valve may be dirty or the wire harness may be damaged. First try cleaning the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and make sure you use all the can up and try to get the idle air control valve cleaned. A faulty or dirty idle air control valve will cause engine to stall when put in to gear from idle. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% soon.
