I ran over a high up man hole and it broke a hole in my engine. THe hole in the engine is about the size of a CD. you see through it and the oil pump is right there. its a 1995 volvo 960. im not sure what im looking for to fix. but all i konw is when i hit the man hole the compression was lost. car shut off and oil was EVERYWHERE. so i keep typing in oil pan. and that obviously isnt it. it is where the oil pump is located. please call wit the part name i should purchase. 803-370-5175 or email [email protected]

I would think it would be much easier to start with a complete used motor if the part you are looking for is not the oil pan.

I have a very high all purse I also have a manual gauge.I replaced the gauge this morning oil pressure stayed the same when its cold it will run over a hundred pounds.it never did that before it usually...

It would help to know the year, make, model of the vehicle, as well as engine type/size. But in general, that would indicate a faulty pressure relief valve, which is usually located as part of the oil pump, which is inside the engine's oil pan. A cheap first step is to also change the oil filter and oil, as a clogged oil filter would not help matters.

Ran out of engine oil and after i refilled, it wont start

I the engine ran completely out of oil, the engine has been cooked and is probably locked up from the friction between unlubricated metal moving parts. Also may have spun bearings which means the main or rod bearings stacked on top of each other causing the engine to lockup. If you ran the engine without oil until it quit you will probably need a new engine.

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that needs a new water pump. My mechanic quoted me over $1000 to fix it, and warned me that the engine will likely go bad soon because the water pump goes through the motor....

Hello and Welcome to FixYa.com

you must have the 2.7 liter engine if so the weep hole for the water pump is inside the engine and yes the water pump goes out and leaks anti freeze and water into engine causing it to sludge up. depending on how long you ran engine with water in it depends on how long engine will last. if not long you should be ok. i would remove the oil pan and clean the oil pump screen and pan. the estimate is correct. the water pump is in line with the timing chain. i would replace the chain and guides while in there as well. flush engine after all is done. use the cheap oil to run engine and add flush then drain and add synthetic oil for high mileage engine. I own one and i had the same problem. i drilled through the timing plate a hole and braised a little pipe to the weep hole to water pump so for the next time the pump leaks it will leak outside of the engine.

My 2000 Saturn L with 2.2 engine . I changed oil and found about four quarts of gas in the oil .put new oil in ran the engine the next day I check oil.The oil level was really high on dip stick and smells...

You have a serious/dangerous breach between the fuel supply and lubrication system. Oil is a bit flammable itself without gasoline being added. Used to see this with mechanical fuel pumps getting a hole in the rubber diaphragm and dumping gas into the crankcase. However yours is an electric pump. This has to be something that an experienced GM mechanic has seen before. I think that 2.2 was used in many GM products so a Chevy dealer should be able to help you. This is one problem which I would take to a dealer first, just to get an estimate.

Why is oil gage reading 60? does this mean I need oil?

CHECK OIL PRESSURE FIRST.DEPENDS ON THE ENGINES SIZE JEEP OIL PRESSURE RANGES FROM 25 PSI TO 37 PSI.IF PRESSURE CHECKS OUT GOOD GAUGE COULD BE FAULTY.IF OIL PRESSURE IS STILL TOO HIGH.YOUR OIL TOO THICK.OIL RETURN HOLE STOPPED UP.OIL PUMP PRESSURE REGULATOR STUCK CLOSED.

No oil pressure and a knocking that got

Sounds like the oil pump intermediate shaft might have slipped out of place when the distributor was removed and replaced. The intermediate shaft is held to the oil pump by a nylon sleeve that can and sometimes does break, which will allow it to slip out of place. Pull the distributor back out and look down the hole with a flashlight, you should see the top of the shaft, it looks like the head of a regular flat tip screw, if you do not see this the shaft is out of place and the only fix is to remove the oil pan and reinstall it. As far as engine damage, if you only ran the engine for a short time and at low rpms you might be alright, if you drove it down the road or ran it at high rpms then there is probably damage to the bearings, and the knock will not go away.

Car won't start, oil all ran out because oil pan had a hole in it

Some GM products have the fuel pump wiring run through the oil pressure switch so that if you lose oil pressure,it kills the fuel pump to prevent engine damage. You may have to prime the oil system to get it to run.Hope this helps you.Good luck,

Truck broke down wont start.

There is no Inercia Switch to reset Like Ford
Have you Double Checked All Underbody wiring for fuel pump ,OPEN In Pink/blk tracer fuel power lead, also
Oil Sending unit on most GM Vehicles have the ability to turn OFF GROUND to Fuel Pump Relay as a Proyection Against LOW OIL Pressure in engine.

Fuel Cutoff Mode
The PCM cuts OFF fuel from the fuel injectors when the following conditions are met in order to protect the powertrain from damage and improve driveability:
  • The ignition is OFF. This prevents engine run-on.
  • The ignition is ON but there is no ignition reference signal. This prevents flooding or backfiring.
  • The engine speed is too high, above red line.
  • The vehicle speed is too high, above rated tire speed.
  • During an extended, high speed, closed throttle coast down-This reduces emissions and increases engine braking.
  • During extended deceleration, in order to prevent damage to the catalytic converters

Oil filter broke off

Absolutely its a common problem with the Quest the filter housing sits low with the filter and if you bottom out it can break. Fit a few myself. Best option go to the junk yard and buy the oil filter unit/housing unit. Just a few bolt and a seal and the job is done. Good Luck
