Question about 1994 Hyundai Excel

1 Answer

When driving and you push the gas to go it chugs like it is running out of gas. If you let off the gas it runs fine until you have to push the gas again. We have changed out the fuel filter and took it somewhere and had the fuel injection cleaned. Also put additive in the gas tank. But it still is doing the same.

The thing worries me is how did "they" clean the injectors. To do it right they should be taken out and cleaned not just adative ran through them. The reasion why I asked they should have checked your fule presure at the time It kind of sounds like a week fule pump.

The best way is to have fule presure checked at the fule rail. This is a sinple thing if you have the right tools and should have been done as part of cleaning the injectors.

Replace your MAF sensor in the air ducting between the air filter box and the throttle body. If the mass air flow sensor is in trouble it can cause such issues. I also suspect that you have a "check engine light" on. Have this scanned by any local auto parts store for free and let me know the code.

Sounds like you are getting too miuch fuel and not enough air. Try replacing your spark plugs and wires, then cleaning your throttle body. Replace the air filter too if its been awhile. This will probably fix the problem.

Check or replace all your fuel filters. Check for water in your fuel. Drain your tank and replace with 93 octane fuel. Also check your spark plugs.

Car chugs and wants to stall

Change the fuel cap. It may not be venting properly.

Chugs, acts like it's not getting gas once warmed up. Idle's fine

This problem can be several things. When your engine is cold, your computer is in a "closed loop" and just pretty much keeps the engine running until warmed up. After reaching operation temperature, the computer starts reading all the sensors. If one sensor is not connected or is defective, you will experience performance problems. Most of the time this will turn on the check engine light, but not always. Second is the fuel pump. This too will cause erratic engine problems.

Rough, chugging when driving and conking out

Could also be a faulty mass air flow meter, or throttle position sensor. It's hard to tell, you need to take it to a shop to be properly diagnosed.
