Question about 1992 Isuzu Pickup

2 Answers

Manual clutch I purchased a 92 isuzu pickup, 2.3 liter, 5 speed, m75 trans., manual clutch. When I bought the truck you had to push the clutch through the floor to start and shift gears. This was after pulling the clutch cable through the firewall and applying vise grips to keep it there. I have installed new clutch, preasure plate, release bearing, and cable, only to have the exact same problem. This was a one owner truck and he told me that the clutch was never right after having the original replaced. I have triple checked the parts stores to see if I have been given the wrong kit. Now I have an 1 1\2'' shim at the firewall to take up cable slack, and the release bearing is hard against the plate fingers with the pedal at the top. This is the only way it will adjust and work. Can a shift fork wear out? Could the wrong shift fork cause this? My haynes manual seems to show two different forks. Each one pivots on opposite sides. What I don't know is whether this is the original fork or not. If this was changed along with the clutch they may have installed the wrong fork therefore the clutch was never right from the start. Fixing to drop the transmission again but would like some advice on what to be looking for.

Thanks for the reply. I fixed mine by adding 2 washers behind the ball that the fork pivots on. The ball had actually worn that much. It was either washers or build the ball back up heavy and smooth it. Luckily there was enough threads to add washers. In addition to that I found that the clutch pedal is pushed back up with a cylinder like a tool box lid. It was wore out. I took a spring and hooked it on the pedal and under the dash. Mine was just as you described yours. Try this when you need a pressure plate. Bet that is your problem also.

Sounds like the wrong pressure plate. I got a kit from Autozone and it was the wrong pressure plate. My old one was obviously thicker. With the new pressure plate, the shift fork was almost at full travel before any resistance. That's no good. I had to pull the transmisssion again and use my old pressure plate. Luckily, it was in good condition. Then, the clutch slack was easily adjusted and works great.

You might have installed the wrong cable because the bearing should not be tight on the pressure plate until the clutch pedal is pushed.

Should only be on the clutch for a manual trans.
There would be a reverse lamp switch on the trans.

How many liters of 80/90 weight gear oil does my 1990 chevy c1500 take in the transmission?

Fill at side fill hole until fluid begins to run back out. Let it run until it stops, install plug and wipe up excess. If fully drained, usually holds less than 3 liters.

Sounds like clutch adjustment or replacement. (Not disengaging the trans fully). Check to make sure you have enough juice in the clutch master reservoir and that there isn't a leak at the clutch slave cylinder first.........

No clutch pressure on a hydraulic clutch system borg warner transmission 4 cyl. 5 speed

look for leak....under the dash on the floor if its wet there its the master. Just follow rod from clutch peddle to master. Check the line and not sure if your slave is on the outside of the trans look there or if its in the trans see if its wet coming out of the bell housing (where trans meets engine) and replace that part and bleed system

Clutch go's all the way to floor with no resistents can not shift gears engine won't stay on. 1987 5 speed pickup truck

Sounds like the hydraulic fluid may have leaked out of a line or the slave cylinder is leaking, or the master clutch cylinder has an internal leak that doesn't actuate the clutch effectively when the pedal is pushed to the floor.

I have a 1989 Isuzu pickup 2.3 5 speed . and the car runs fine however when it get to a certen speed in each gear a horrable screaching comes from what i am guessing the trans.can any one help.

replace the clutch assembly, your problem is most likely the throw out bearing. I say replace the clutch because you are in the heart, so to avoid doing it later do it now.
