Question about 1995 Plymouth Voyager

1 Answer

My 1995 plymouth voyager SE minivan has been sitting about 4 months. Started the van in "Park",put gearshift in "R" and no problem. When I move the gearshift lever through "N" to "Drive" the gearshift lever is very stiff. Repeated the above several times and was able to put van in the "drive".position. In the drive position ,when I press the gas pedal to move the van the gas pedal is very stiff as if something is wedged against it. Further pressure on the gas pedal forces the gearshift lever out o the drive position to "N". I would appreciate any assistance you can provide.

    How do I seperate/free up the 2 cables ?

Please provide some detailed info. ie: where do both ends of each cable terminate, what must be removed to get access to cables, once identified how to seperate (pull a part,reroute,WD40 lube etc)cables, likely area where "freeze up" may occur(under the van on drivers side or or just under the hood on drivers side)?

The shifter linkage is binding up on the throttle cable. Follow the throttle cable through the firewall and you will find that it is pulling against the shifting linkage.

It will be under the hood on the drivers side. Against the firewall more than likely. The throttle cable is going to run through the firewall and to the fuel injection. It should be easy to identify. Get someone to help you and get in the van and shift the vehicle, while you watch under the hood. You should see the cable move. It will come through the firewall and go down kind of by the wheel to the top of the transmission. You will be able to just pull one of the cables to the side. They won't be actually stuck together.

What causes parking not to go in, and not allow my 1990 Plymouth Voyager van to start? a sensor, a small rod, lever?

The Chryslers can be started in park or neutral. There are a number of possiblities to why it won't go into Park all the way. A bad cable perhaps? Things do need to be lined up in order for the engine to crank - neutral safety switch.
