2000 Jetta stalls after 15minutes

Recently my 2000 Jetta with 120000 miles (which I love) has been stalling out after about 15 minutes of driving time. Sometimes it fires right back up but most of the time it needs to sit for about an hour then it fires up. Unfortunetly I haven't been able to hook up a code reader yet because the car won't run long enough to get it to an Auto Zone. I've looked on some other repair sites and while I found a number of other owners who report the same problem, I have yet to find a decent solution to the problem.

Any and all suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My 2000 Jetta TDI will stall while underway in any gear almost anytime but usually when the outdoor temperature is above 80 farenheit. Its almost like someone turns a switch!! Tachometer drops to zero even thought engine is producing rpms as car is still in motion and in gear. After a couple of minutes car starts normally but never until coil light comes on when turning the key. Mechanic has checked fuel system for air leaks, fuel pump is okay and new fuel filter installed with no change. Dealer has car now and can't duplicate problem.

I heard of an issue with the fuel pick up in the tank. It has a check valve that gets hung up or freezes in the colder climates.

I have a Jetta GLS 2000 2.0L Gas model, at 130,000KM. I had a similar problem & I had to replace the "fuel relay". this work was performed at VW at my cost, but now it runs great.

Hello! I have a 2002 Aerio recently is turning off while in movement. i try to turn it back on and it wont start. I wait a coulple of minutes and it turns back on and works perfectly. What could it...

stalls when driving, engines don't turn off they stall or run, or misfire. engines are self sustaining, they are not like an electric motor that turns on. just to be clear.
If you do say turns off,. this means to a tech, that you lost 12v power at the ignition, and EFI system. 12v power is/was lost.
this is not what is happening,

stalls:
try a tuneup. (top of list for 100 years now)
if it stalls only when driving. then say if your smart right foot can
save the stall.? can you, and is it very easy?
if easy, the ISC may be bad. (dirty, etc)
stalling can be simple or very complex. (Ask an ASE tech )

1:never ever tuned up, total disregard to the 60k miles service page in the glove box. op guide. aka; as the Service Schedule.

2: The EGR valve, is leaking. if it has one. no country stated.
3: bad idle controller , iSC.
4: air leaks in all MPI engine with MAF sensor will love to stall.
5: running rich, causing gross spark plug fouling and stalls.
6: gross lean fuel mix. (we call that bogging)

eg: I was driving , the engine bogged(lost power) i could not save
it with fast right foot and the engine stalled.
or
i stalled just as i reached a traffic stop,. elaborate please.

What you should do is check for spark when the vehicle stalls. If you have no spark then you probably have a bad ignition module. The other thing is You didn`t mention if the check engine light is coming on.If it is then have the codes read.Even if it is not you should still check the codes.Sometimes the computer will have a code and the light will not come on.This could give you a clue as to what could be causing the engine to stall. You might also want to check your fuel pressure just to make sure it is good. The pressure should be 52 - 59 psi.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Jetta v6 lurching and almost stalling

When something in the car's faulty and a sensor picks it up and tells the computer, the computer will cause the car to do exactly that. Could be anything, from a damaged air intake sensor to the breaks.

Have your car connected to a computer and let the computer do the talking for you.
