Question about 1999 BMW 323 Series

A warnning light came on --a triangle with an exclamation mark surrounded by a circular arrow. The warning light came on. I traveled about 20 km and stopped. The light did not come back on, but the car seemed to be floating on the highway. It felt like it had a mind of its own.

    I was in cruise control doing about 110 km an hour
    I stopped to check out the light and when I restarted the engine the light did not come back on. But the steering of the car was strange. At times though not all the time it seemed to be floating or drifting on the road. Tires are good brakes are good. Vehicle just passed a safety check.

This is the master warning light. It is a warning that another light is lit or a condition has occurred that requires review by the driver. If there is a driver information window a message may be displayed.

Example of other conditions depending on the car is:

The waring kight with the triangle and exclamation mark is waring you that the brake pads are close to tuoching the disc's the waring sensor on the brake pad has shorted. It's so you do not scrap the disc's.

Lights come on in the dash to warn you of problems with various systems in your car. That ABS light is telling you there is something wrong with your ABS system and the other light is reported to be the transmission control module indicator light. You will have to get the vehicle trouble codes scanned to know for sure what's wrong with the car.

Beetle warning light come on


This is your ASR Light (Automatic Slip Regulation) If it blinks that means the system is preventing wheel spin. If it's constantly on, the system is either turned off, of there's a malfunction in the system. If no other lights are on the dash, it could be a faulty brake light switch. There are a DOUBLE recall on this part. Ever had it done ??

A yellow circular arrow warning light has come on. What is it?


A yellow light containing an exclamation mark surrounded by a triangle, all surrounded by a curved arrow is the Automatic Stability Control warning light (ASC + Traction Control). If the light just flashes momentarily whilst driving it means that you have driven in a way that has triggered the ASC system to activate and protect you. If the light is on all the time it can mean that you have switched the system off. The switch for the ASC is one of the row of chrome switches just under the airconditioning controls. If you operate the switch and the light stays on, you have a faulty ASC system. OK to drive the car but be aware that the stability control will not save you from a skid. Have it looked at if you can't get the light to stay off.

Normal operation: Light on when you turn on the ignition, should go out after engine starts. Light flashes if you are driving hard on a slippery surface and the system is acting to stabilise the car.

Faulty: Light on all the time measn either you have turned the system off or there is a fault.

Could be the motor-management-warning light, but I guess it's the break-warning light. There might be too little breaking-fluid left in the lines ... A boardcomputer-readout should clarify this.

Otherwise, try parking on an ascending road with the nose pointing up, hit the hand-break and wait like 2 minutes; the light should come on. You might wanna retry it with the car's nose pointing downwards as well ... If so, definitely the breaking-fluid, otherwise probably not ;)

In any case - flashing warning light are never ok, so when you see it again and you're sure it's not just the ABS/ESP warning light, go and have your boardcomputer read-out, since it should contain useful errorcodes ..
