Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I just purchased the vehicle and did a full tune up. Dismantled the alarm set up by the previous owner, but the vehicle has a factory installed alarm as well. It wont let the vehicle start up. The vehicle has also been sitting for 2 years. What can I do to get the vehicle running? Will a new computer module do it?

The first thing to do is make sure the battery is fully charged, next is the factory alarm, this alarm is controled by a clicker or can also be turned off by the door lock with the key, now sometimes the switch wears out on the driverside door and will not turn alarm off so try to lock and unlock the passenger door, also the other alarm you removed did you connect the power starter wire after removing. if you look at the steering column after removing covers and lower dash panel you will see wires going to ignition switch, this is where the main wirng for an alarm goes now i think its a yellow wire but you will see the wire cut in half that the way it disables the alarm then they conect to alarm you need to connect the cut wire back together, the two halfs of the wire will be the same color, after that if it doesnt start then we will need to test for power at the starter, have someone hold key in the crank position as if they are starting jeep while they hold key use a testlight to see if you are getting power to the small wire on the back of the starter, if theres power and engine is not spinning then replace the starter, these steps should get this jeep going. one of these is the problem , hope this is helpful, good luck.

I need an owners manual for the alarm system in my vauxhall astra 2001 cdx 1.8. It has electric windows all round.

There is no separate alarm owners manual for the factory fit alarm. If your car has had an aftermarket alarm fitted by a previous owner suggest you find out which manufacturer it came from and check their website for a downloadable file.

Whan can I do if the vehicle alarm goes off and hunks a couple times a day on its own with no one touching the car?

First we would need to know if it is a factory alarm or something you installed after purchasing the vehicle. Or if the alarm is an aftermarket alarm installed before you bought the vehicle. Assuming that it is an after market alarm, the sensitivity is set too high. They are usually installed under the dash by the driver side kick panel. Find the box (black color) find the slot with the plus and minutes on it and turn the dial to at the most medium. If it is a factory alarm, you might have a faulty alarm module or somebody is messing with your car Just for kicks.

I have a 97 lincoln continental that I just recently purchased. The previous owner explained to me that he just recently had a tune up done on the vehicle. However the check engine light came on so I had...

The previous owner had the same problem you have
and thought a so called tune-up (spark plugs) might
help ,as he was about to unload it.

Why would you have a car inspected when you
know they won't even accept it for insp with any lights on dash?

The inspection station doesn't know, and as you found
out, provide any diagnostic advice

How is it possible, you spend $1000 to have a car returned to you
with no improvement what so ever.

Assured by a mechanic, that he can't diagnose and repair a misfire
on cylinder #5!! but asks you pay $1000 for the pleasure his efforts?

No such thing as a full tune-up
You said the previous owner did that
So you did that again? Replaced spark plugs --for no reason

Your being taken advantage of,close to fraud

My advise is ask around where the best repair shop is
Then keep asking and talk to people that go there with
similar problems

You either have a bad ignition coil or ignition module
causing the misfire and the throttle position sensor
may be an issue ,if installed wrong (throttle body kit)
that sound suspicious also.

Clean the MAF Sensor
New Air Filter
New Gas Filter
Find out if you even got new spark plugs
New O2 Sensors
Scope out the Fuel Pump Current pattern
that may be on the way out

This is a 14 year old veh that needs a lot of diagnostic time
so you can use and enjoy it

2000 Toyota Rav4, just purchased. Has a two button Toyota FOB for door locks, alarm and remote starter? . The vehicle has a OEM Toyota remote starter installed but I don't know what combination of buttons...

My ex girlfriend had a factory installed honda remote strt on her vehicle. It was activated by hitting the lock button two times in succession. Some vehicles use a combination of the lock-unlock buttons. try using some combinations on the remote, many "oem" remote starts are installed by aftermarket installers so who knows what they did as a start function, it could also have been changed by the previous owner.

Looking at a 95 rodeo with 115000 mile what can i expect as far as maintenance/tune ups?

Really depends on whether the maintenance has been kept up on it with records and how hard the car has been driven. Hopefully its been taken care of. I'd say a minor tune up. Plugs, wires, oil change. Check and possibly change tranny fluid. It should be good, that engine will go 250,000 - 300,000 miles without much trouble if you take care of it. True story. Hope it helps!

Intermittent flashing lights when vehicle is turned off

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Leave it disconnected for a while. then reconnect so the cars computer box will reprogram to the default settings. If that does not work, you may possibly have to replace the box.the codes for keyless entry are individualized. The original owner may have the owners manual.
