Question about 2008 Ford F 250 Super Duty 4WD

1 Answer

Hello, i just changed the fuel filters on my 08 f250 6.4 per the manuals instructions. seemed easy enough. basically the only "trick" was to turn the key on/off 6 times to allow the fuel pump to run and prime the system. thing is, I don't think the prime worked. the truck started, then stopped maybe 10 seconds later. i did the prime probably 10 more times (with rest periods between) and it started twice, but only for a few seconds. I also tried bleeding at the fuel cooler schrader valve during the primes and did get a small amount of air out. I have a data logger that now shows 0 fuel rail pressure when I try to start it. I'm worried running the pumps dry could have damaged them- but in addition to any advice on the previous description, is there any other way to bleed air from the pumps and or fuel rails without getting too invasive?

Not really,if it's a diesel you should have a primer on top of the filter, you have to press that around 30times to prime,if it's gas you should already have pressue with key on after 2sec,check filters and make sure you didn't install them backwards flow.

Caliber will start for a second then die. when i try to start again it will not crank. i have all lights and power in the car seems normal. ill let the car sit for a few hours and it starts fine.

Well if the vehicle starts even for a few seconds .That means you are getting fuel and electrictal supply to give you a spark through the coils wires and disturbuter at least start up .
Then you say you let it sit a few hr's and it starts again
Why did you have to put a new battery in it If it starts fine .
You have a problem with your fuel system not delivering enough fuel .
You can pretty much rule out the electrical system the battery turns the starting motor .
The vehicle it 08 not really old enough for a fuel pump to go but fuel filters clog and that will damage the pump aswell and cause a condution similiar to what you have described and while your at it take out the air filter that will help to .
Give this a try follow the fuel lines from the pump to the engine you will see a fuel filter change it .The vehicle will likely run again
For 10 to 20 dollars out of pocket

The easiest way to relieve the fuel pressure is to start your engine and pull the Fuel Pump Relay - car should die. Now there is no fuel pressure. Turn the key to the off position and change out the fuel filter. Once the filter is changed, put the relay back in and prime the system - turn the key on (don't start) for a few seconds. Turn off, turn key on for a few seconds then start the car. Check for leaks by filter. Easy peasy. Hope this was helpful :-)

LINCOLN MAR 7 WILL ONLY START BY MANUAL GAS INTO AIR INTATE??

Fuel line clog usually at the filter, they never get changed enough!
Broken or bent fuel lines. Sometimes fuel pump in tank and /or fuel pre filter (a filter to get out larger items). Start in the order I described. ( easy to hardest)

Good Luck!

the trick ? would be is what system is causing it like fuel, electrical,or ignition.the ignition coil pack can cause an internal short in the windings causing ignition shutdown.ill start by checking for spark after she shuts down that would narrow it down to the fuel pump and or possible relay failure they also carry a coil just like the ignition coil pack.Fan and oil filter would not solve this matter.in addition make a fuel pump check also they normally come on for about two seconds when key is switched to the on position.

Yesterday was the first time that it happened.

There's always a first time for everything.

Go to HD or Lowe's and buy you a blue bottle of StarTron Star Brite, and use it per the instructions. While you're there get a can of Berryman B-12 Chemtool and use it per the instructions. Your key switch can cause the same symptoms, and the key switch can actually cause your fuel pump to fail, because ti looses enough ground. But don't worry about that until after the tricks above.

When I try to start my 03 sierra it struggles to fire up, like it is starving for gas, on my second attempt it fires up like normal. What causes this?

Have a look at the distributer cap and rotor button,if they have carbon build up or corrosion then replace them. Also listen for the fuel pump to stop before cranking the engine,if it starts better when you do this try a new fuel filter.

92 yota 4runner fuel filter replacment

The fuel filter is under pressure so be sure to remove the gas cap before attempting to remove the filter. If not you will strip out the nuts. Run your vehicle until the reserve fuel light has been on for 20 or so miles. This way you can let the remaining fuel (1-2 gallons) run into a gas can and you can reuse it. Unscrew the nuts from the gas tank side and the engine side, then install the new filter. The fuel filter is located on the passenger side, almost directly under the front seat, but on the undercarriage. Hope this helps.

Can't get speed go up hills

That's often the sign of a clogged fuel filter. Running on level ground or not trying to accelerate hard, enough fuel can get through for the engine to make the power you need. But when you try to punch it to accelerate quickly, or you try to go up a hill (basically anytime max power is needed), the car can't flow enough fuel to the engine to make that power, and the car seems to fall on its face. Change your fuel filter out and see if that helps.
