Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

After removing, cleaning and topping up the coolant reservoir, the battery doesn't seem to hold much of a charge. I.E. The engine cranks very sluggishly before kicking in. As well, the clock loses the time setting after each start. In fact initially, right after putting back the coolant reservoir and reconnecting all the hoses and sensor plug, the battery was totally dead. I needed a boost to start the car again. It drives the same, no stalling etc., and no warning lights appear on the dash panel. Please assist. Thank You.

Avalon wont start batt seems fine just clicking


seems, means nuttn. (no jumper cables,?????)
only a volt meter works, seems is zero .
a rested charged battery and (warm temps) is 12.6vdc.
you crank it, (not in Klondike?) and battery holds above 11v. cranking

if key line fails, did you wiggle the shifter cranking, , do so.
if that starts car the PRNDL switch is bad. on trans side.

{: ) You need to remove the four(#13mm) bolts of that elbow brace just above the battery.
Remove the battery retainer bolt (#13mm) located on its base, the side facing the engine.
Loosen the battery terminals (negative terminal first) and pull them aside towards the engine so it will not interfere with the battery removal.
Try to raise the battery on the positive terminal side to an angle of about 60deg and slide a little bit towards the coolant reservoir so you could gain a better leverage when you pull it up. Doesn't matter if at some point the battery went 90 degrees. Just pull it fast and swiftly. Careful with your fingers. The battery is quite heavy and you may be thrown off balance while trying to pull it out.
You may rest the battery on top the coolant reservoir if needed, buit only for a short while to regain your momentum.

Installation is just the reversal. The battery connection will be to install the positive cable first. .

TO CHANGE RADIATOR FIRST YOU TURN OFF RADIO FIRST TO KEEP FROM LOSING RADIO CODE.DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.RAISE FRONT OF VECHICLE SUPPORT ON JACK STANDS.REMOVE THE LOWER SPLASH SHIELDS.NOW YOU NEED TO DRAIN THE COOLING SYSTEM.CATCH COOLANT IN A LARGE DRAIN PAN.REUSE COOLANT IF ITS FAIRLY NEW.IF COOLANT VERY OLD CHANGE IT.PUT OLD COOLANT IN SOME EMPTY CONTAINER TAKE TO A GARAGE OR WHOEVER DISPOSE IT.DONT POUR ON GROUND.HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT.MOVE THE AIR INTAKE DUCT PASSES OVER THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE.NOW WHEN ALL COOLANT DRAIN OUT.LOOSEN UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSE CLAMPS.THEN DETACH THE RADIATOR HOSES FROM THE FITTINGS.IF THEY ARE STUCK GRASP EACH HOSE NEAR THE END WITH A PAIR OF ADJUSTABLE PLIERS AND TWIST IT TO BREAK THE SEAL THEN PULL IT OFF REMOVE SMALL COOLANT SURGE LINES FROM TOP OF RADIATOR THAT GOES TO THE OVER FLOW RESERVOIR..DISCONNECT COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR.THEN REMOVE THE COOLING FAN.REMOVE DISCONNECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES GET READY TO CATCH TRANSMISSION FLUID THEN PLUG LINES. NOW UNSCREW THE FOUR BOLTS TWO ON EACH SIDE OF THE RADIATOR THAT ATTACH RADIATOR TO THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSOR CAREFULLY TIP TOP OF THE RADIATOR SLIGHTLY TOWARDS THE ENGINE.REMOVE THE UPPER RADIATOR SEAL AND LIFT RADIATOR FROM THE ENGINE.NOW IS THE TIME TO REPLACE THE UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSES WITH NEW ONES SINCE ALL COOLANT REMOVE I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.NOW WHEN YOU GET READY TO INSTALL NEW RADIATOR USE SHEETS OF CARD BOARD PROTECT RADIATOR FINS AND CORES FROM DAMAGE WHILE SITTING RADIATOR BACK IN PLACE.ONCE YOU GET UPPER AND LOWER HOSES IN PLACE ALSO PLACE SMALL SURGE HOSES FROM THE OVER FLOW RESERVOIR TO RADIATOR NEW THERMOSTAT AND TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES ALL HOOK UP. START POURING ANTIFREEZE IN THE RADIATOR OR OVERFLOW RESERVOIR IF RADIATOR DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP ON IT.POUR A FULL GALLON ANTIFREEZE AND A HALF MORE IF LONG AS THE COOLANT STAYS ON THE COLD LEVEL MARK ON OVERFLOW RESERVOIR DONT OVER FILL.IF YOU POUR ANTIFREEZE IN RADIATOR KEEP POURING ANTIFREEZE UNTIL LEVEL STOP DROPPING AND LEVEL OFF AT RADIATOR TOP.START ENGINE CHECK FOR LEAKS. The battery will not charge and I can't figure out to remove the battery (it sits in side ways) Can you jump start with cables???


It is possible to jump this car but you need to be very careful! To remove the battery,take out the two bolts holding the strut support bar and loosen the rear one.you may need to unbolt the washer reservoir or coolant reservoir if one is bolted to the bar. Twist the bar toward the engine.You should then be able to get to the battery hold down bolt,move the battery,and disconnect the NEGATIVE cable first.

Oil change and cam belt/timing chain change for volkswagen golf 1.9cc tdi 130 bhp, 1992 model


support engine. remove coolant reservoir. remove serpentine belt. remove serpentine belt tensioner. remove bolts from mount. carefully raise engine up and move mount out of the way.(hard to explain and this is hard to do you have to have the engine in the perfect position and whatnot) remove the top plastic cover. with 19mm socket rotate engine clockwise until hole in cam lines up with hole in head. insert vw special tool to hold cam. remove the 4 6mm bolts on crank pulley. remove plastic covers. with white paint, mark belt to cam and belt to crank. loosen tensioner. remove belt. transfer marks to new belt. strongly suggest replacing water pump. reinstall t-belt. put the tensioner somewhat tight. rotate the engine fully twice. loosen tensioner bolt and adjust to perfect tension using needle and v-groove on adjuster. install is reverse of removal.

I cannot seem to locate the radiator and where I can put water in. Someone help!


The radiator is that flat panel shaped object in the front-most center of the engine compartment. You don't add coolant and water directly into the radiator. On the right side of the engine compartment is a plastic overflow reservoir with a blue cap. That's where the coolant/water mix goes. Run the engine while adding coolant and water. There are fill marks on the reservoir indicating how much coolant/water mix is required. With the engine running, if the radiator is very low on coolant it will repeatedly draw fluid from the reservoir. Continue to add coolant/water mix until the situation stabilizes and the reservoir is filled to the high fill mark.
