bad connections on battery terminals, replace both. or starter may not be good, sometimes brushes are dragging. slow start and jumping works. Last a short or loose wiring between battery starter and or hot or ground

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has a new battery but won't start. When I try to jump start it, it just makes a clicking sound but won't start.

Most likely you have a bad connection somewhere. Trace the battery cables and clean/tighten all terminals or try jumping to a different lug. You might also try removing the starter and jumping directly to the starter to verify that it is good.

Could be a failing starter or problems with the cables.
A dead cell in the battery will do it too.

I went to start my 2005 PT Cruiser and got a loud clicking sound and it won't turn over. Is it the starter?

probably not sounds like either a dead or weak battery or bad connections on the battery posts. first take battery cables loose clean terminals and hook back up hopefully then it will start. or use jumper cables and see if it will jump start. if it jump starts then you no its not starter.if it doesnt jump stsrt then clean posts and cable ends and try again. hope this helps. best of luck

Car won't start.. It just clicks. Tried jump starting it but it wouldn't do anything but click.

check for corrosion at the terminals of the battery and also the starter, if thats clean ,, your starter may be stuck, if you remove the starter you can bench check it by attaching a jumper cable (positive side) to the post for the starter, and tapping the negative side of the Jumper to the case of the starter,, it should Jump into position, Prior to doing that check,, look for any blown fuses, but if its clicking,, Its trying so I doubt its a fuse issue

Check your starter solenoid. Sometimes the wires loosen, or the solenoid just goes bad. Check to make sure all wires are firmly attached. Hope this helps.

2006 Chevy Cobalt wont start. It doesnt turn over. All i can hear when i try to start it is a rapid clicking sord of sound. Any ideas!?

This means your battery is dead. Whether it's from a catastrophic failure of the battery, or something ran it down is to be determined later, but for now you should be able to jump start it to get it where you need to go. Be prepared for it to not start again once you shut it off, so make sure you're someplace you can get a jumpstart, or fix the car. If you charge the battery, or jump it and run it for a while, if it doesn't start again, you have a bad battery. If the alternator is bad, you'll get a big failure of the gauges and lights, and it will quit running altogether. If you're nearing about 60,000 miles, your alternator is running out of time anyways, so be prepared for that one.

Pontiac Sunfire 1997. Won't start.

When jumped off ,if it drags to start, have the starter checked, and if when jumping the car off,the starter turns the engine over real good, then the cables are most likely the problem, replace them.

Remove the starter & inspect the contacts inside the starter solenoid housing. If they are burnt and/or worn, you will get this condition. Replace the contacts and the plunger, or replace the starter. I change contacts in my shop 3-4 times a week. Quite a common failure. The clicking noise is the plunger hitting one contact, but not the other, due to wear.
