Question about Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

2001 Pontiac Sunfire. The left headlight (if you were facing the car) is very dim. I replaced the light and noticed no difference. I checked the fuse box, fuses were fine. I then used my DMM to check for resistance and voltage levels, through this I think it may be a grounding issue but thats as far as I know...

You are close--look at the local grounding point for the light, and remove the connection. Wire brush away any rust, then place some grease on the bare metal and stud. Place a 'star' washer on the stud first, then the terminal, another star washer, and finally, the nut. Tighten firmly, but don't break the stud off. If you measured voltage between the ground wire and nearby bare metal, that confirms the poor connection. Hope this helps!

I have a 01 sunfire an my pass side headlight is dim an i whichd the bulb an still is doin the same thing. i havent checkd the wires under the battery is those are corroded or damaged how could i fix that...

if the one headlight is dimmer than the other, it's most likely a grounding issue. Pull the headlight connector and follow the wires and find the one that is grounded to the body of the car. Make sure that the connection is tight, not cut or damaged, or corroded. You can cut out the damaged piece of wire and replace with a new one of similar size and color,

Right headlight is brighter than the left headlight

Probably a bad ground or bad connection on the headlight that's dim. Try wiggling the wires on the bulb connection if that's not the problem/ Try and find where that headlight gets it's ground.

04 pontiac sunfire battery light and panel lights dim

sounds like your alternator. if you have a multimeter then turn on your car and turn your headlights on/ac and heater fan on high/wipers on and blinkers on. once they are all on hook the meter to the battery and if it reads less then 14 volts then the alt is bad. or you can just take it to a shop and have it tested.

Flickering Headlights and Dim interior lights

Definately an electrical problem....first off, check the battery and alternator connections to make sure they are tight. The problem has to be before the fuse box because the headlights and interior lights are on different fuses. It sounds to me like a loose wire, corroded battery terminals, or an alternator that is going bad. An alternator is a relatively easy and cheap fix. They cost about $100 and require removing a few wires, 3 bolts, and the serpentine belt.
