My battery light turned on. I checked the altenator. It was fine so I bought a brand new battery, but the light turned back on the next day? What else can be causing the battery light to turn on?

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If the battery light is on, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged. It can be an indication of a weak battery or a faulty alternator. If the battery light still on after charging then the problem will surely be on the alternator itself. If that's the case the alternator should be replaced to resolve the problem.

If the battery won't hold charge even on a new alternator then the problem will be on the battery itself. It surely is in the end of it's service life and replacement will be necessary.

You may try to reset it to by removing the positive battery connector, letting it sit for at least 5mins. then reconnect it again. This will reset the system and can get the battery light off.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

There may be a light staying on and thus draining your battery. If there is a bulb in the trunk, check whether the switch works. The same applies to the bulb in the cabin.

The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled . Your vehicle is a rolling computer .The instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , there is also a body computer ( SJB ) smart junction box , Engine computer etc... they all communicate on a serial data network , C.A.N - controller area network . It's hard to know what's wrong when you don't know how it works . There could be codes stored in the computers , these will not always turn on the check engine light .

Will not turn over, battery is less than one year

it could be a faulty cell in the battery, get it tested, if its less than 1 year old it should be under warranty, take it back and get it replaced, even good batteries go bad! mind you it could be just a bad earth or starter playing up check it out

The car just stopped one day. The lights on the inside will not come on, no radio, and no head lights. I put in a new battery and had the altenator tested. That came back good. The fuses are all good.

Check the mechanical condition of the battery cables; I have seen cables more than once that appeared OK but battery acid had crept under the plastic insulation and dissolved the copper inside.
I confess that this normally shows up first with hard starting or noticeable dimming of the headlights when other accessories are turned on but you have done the other things I would have checked already so it's time to check the cables coming off the battery at both ends.

My battery went dead. It was 5 yrs old it was time to change it. It also went dead. Bought a new altenator and installed it. OK now. Had a problem with the engine with the engine cutting out on the highway. Put some injettor cleaner in the tank and it took about 2-3 days and it`s fine now.
