Question about 2003 Acura 3.2TL

Open Question

High idle problem seems to come out only when I am in stop and go trafffic and the weather is hotter and humid. Car will rev up to 3500-4000 rpms. I have to leave it in *drive* with my foot on the break pedal to keep the revs down to about 2500 when this happens. Putting it into neutral increases the rev idle. Had the same problem just before winter but did not have any idle problems during the winter ... need some help.

I bought my 2003 acura TL about 5 months ago with 60k miles. Lately i found my car idling slightly above 2000rpms. If my foot is not on the brake it just grabs and will start moving as if i was pressing down on the gas pedal.

SOURCE: engine revs up and down

Sounds like a bad IAC motor, or a vaccuum leak, or low coolant... I would definately start with checking these things first

SOURCE: 1999 Acura TL Idling sporaticallly

sounds like a issue due to sucking air at some point check for cracked /dry-rotted vacuum lines and or the hi idle choke may be sticking but truly look for the obvious such as what i mentioned just from sitting these things do occur from heat and the elements such as maby a mouse got hungry funny yes but it happens { no pun intended} start there though maby even remove and clean with brake cleaner the hi idle sensor as well spray around the motor while running it will help you determine exactly where it is sucking air if so then look for the cracked or un plugged line

i cannot specifically point out what the problem might be, but an overheating car---never a good thing. check everything related to cooling. fans, radiator, hoses, waterpump, coolant overflow tank(see if its got a brownish color or looks like there is oil), and check your oil while your at it...

You need to clean the IAC again and also the throttle valve and bore, use only CRC brand Throttle body cleaner. After they are thoroughly cleaned disconnect the battery for 5 min's and then drive the car in varying condition for a few days. If that doesn't cure the issue you have more serious problems and will need a scan tool to look into the readings from the MAF, TPS and ECT sensors. High idle cold start is normal then slowly dropping after a few minutes. I assume you never had a check engine light. Correct?

This sounds like a bad ignition module. They can be tricky to diagnose. You said it would give more trouble on hotter or very humid days. These are tale tale signs that it is in the beginning stages of failure. Pull it off and have it tested at your local auto parts store. These are usually tested for free. Make sure they test it several times to warm it up. Remember it doesn't have the problem until it is hot. Hope this helps. Good luck.

2008 Toyota Highlander Sport AWD when starting off the engine seems to rev fairly high for very small vehicle movement. At idle engine revs around 1000RPM. Gas mileage is poor,17MPG for about 80% city, 20%...

yes it is normal many customers complain about how the newer cars are not as responsive from a stop basically you have to hit the gas then the car goes seems to rev high to people with not a lot of movement becausse of this its because the newer cars are throttle by wire when you hit the gas it sends a electrical signal to the throttle to go instead of a few yyears back they were you hit the gas and the cable attached to gas pedal pulls back throtttle much more responsive hope this helps

Engine high rev at stop and slowly goes to idle speed.

I've got Hyundai Lantra 1.6 year 2000. It's take time to start when it's hot. When I start my car it revs at about 2k-3k rpm. It also does it when I come to a stop. When I come to a stop it will stay at a higher rpm than that of idle speed. It drives ok when on freeway but uses more petrol. I have changed the water & petrol pump but no luck
