My s10 is making a whining noise. I thought it was exhaust but it happens when u turn on the key. Is this the fuel pump going out and if so where is it? The whining sounds like a turbo but it dosent have one and this noise just started yesterday

IF WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY ON THE FUEL PUMP WILL RUN FOR 3 SECOUND THEN SHUT OFF IF THAT WHAT YOU ARE HEARING THEN YES ITS THE PUMP STARTING TO GO OUT AND IT IN THE FUEL TANK IF YOU TAKE THE GAS CAP OFF AND PUT A FUNNEL IN THE TANK AND HAVE SOMEONE TURN THE KEY ON YOU CAN HEAR IT RUN

Im going to college for this all vehicles whine for 2 seconds not 3 and it is completly normal. 2000 and newer fuel pumps can run 300$ or more youll know if its goin out by lack of power or it dosent start. Chevy vortec engines are natorious for not starting when the pump is going out.It has to do with the poppet nozles they use.

1998 Chevy S10 changed fuel pump and and relay still won't crank unless u spray gas. Fuel pump does not make any noise when turned on

Can you jumper the relay to make the pump run ?
The pump relay gets power from the key switch, and ground from the computer, but only if the engine is running. Otherwise, the ground lasts for 3 seconds when you turn the key on.

2007 frontier turns over but will not start

You need fuel and spark to run. Vehicle is about the age that fuel pump goes. Have someone get in vehicle and close door (so key chime sound not interfering) turn key to on - but not all the way to start and while they do that stand behind, or next to, vehicle and listen near gas fill door, or even bend down and listen near tank, for the whine of the fuel pump. It should make a whine sound for a few seconds and then turn off when full pressure reached. If no whine, or whine never stops - fuel pump may need to be reset or pump is bad. Check vehicle manual for fuel pump reset switch (usually in passenger foot well or trunk area) and try that button. If fuel pump starts working after reset try starting. If pump is working but still no start then pull a spark plug and ground the base of it to engine and have someone crank it to see if spark is happening at end of plug. Those are first steps to see if you have fuel and spark.

Problem fuel pump not working 2001 B 3500 Van

check fuses, & relay , relay may have fuse also. when you turn key on, the fuel pump will whine for a couple seconds, have an assistant turn key to on position, donot start, while you listen for whining noise @ tank. if you hear the noise, pump works, if nosound, replace pump. but make sure its not jusj a fuse, or relay first.

I have a chevy colbalt 2006 ls .it is fuel injected. i ran out of gas and now it will not start even after making sure fuel tank is full ......

It probably needs a little priming. In order to do such priming, I would turn the key on for about 20 seconds, until the fuel pump goes off. Then, turn it off, do it again. Do it twice more, and it should be primed. Just to make sure, spray some ether down the air intake, and try and fire it off.

Whining when i press gas

normally, the only part of your automatic transmission that will make a whining noise is the pump. it usually whines when iether the fluid is low or more commonly when the transmission oil filter is getting plugged up.

the power steering pump will also make a whining noise too.

turn the wheel all the way to the right and hold steady pressure against the stop. this puts maximum force on the power steering pump and, if the power steering pump is the one making the whine, it will change the sound of it. (usually louder).

if the trans pump is making the whine noise, it should sound different in neutral compared to drive. this test will really only work if it make the noise without the vehicle moving. if it wont do it at idle hold the rpms at 2000 or so.

if you decide the noise is coming from the transmission, and the transmission filter has not been replaced (assuming you installed a used transmission), replace the filter by removing the oil pan.

oh and also, if it is the power steering pump you should be able to make it make the whining noise while the vehicle is stationary. if it wont make noise unless its moving its not the power steering pump.

Fuel pump is makeing noises and goes on an off

I think that vehicle has 2 fuel pumps. The secondary pump is located under the spare tire this was on a 92 GLi 16V, I'm not sure what engine you have but worth a look.

Loud engine whine (like a jet noise) from 2002 subaru forester

Have you crawled under the vehicle and personally inspected your exhaust line from manifold to tail pipe? The roaring sound usually occur when there is a hole in the exhaust line. I had it happen to my forester before. A hole half the size of a dime made my subaru sound like my old 74 chevy pickup.
