Have you checked the linkage? (connecting the gear shift handle to the rods that go to the trans.)

You need to have your transmission rebuilt.....more than likely you burned out second gear and when you reingauged first gear something inside broke and now you have no gears...

sounds like the synchro went bad for 3rd gear. if all other gears work fine, i would suspect the synchros inside the transmission are starting to fail.

I purchased a 96 Metro 1.3L 5 speed about a year ago, and it was hard to get it into gear, and it would often pop out of 3rd gear when driving. Now I have trouble going from first to second without...

your best bet is to get a tranny from an auto wrecker, and replace the clutch while you're at it. If the tranny is that problematic, it's not worth fixing. The clutch kit, which includes the disc, release bearing, and pressure plate, would be under $150, and a used tranny probably $100. Try and find one with reasonably low mileage. Good luck.

I have a 96 intrepid, 3.3 motor, The tranny has been rebuilt, however on occasion the tranny will stick into the higher gears. The only way to reset the tranny is to shut the car off, then it will drive...

The shift solenoids are INSIDE the transmission. If your Check Engine light is on or if your O/D light is flashing, then you have to scan your computer system to find out what the problem is.

Old fluid and filter, maybe the modulator. Could need tranny service but changing the fluid is cheapest route to start with.

1994 325 BMW shifting from 1st - 2nd gear is hard and grinding noise, does this indicate a posssible issue wth the gear box, clutch, or .......

unfortunately yes it does.its sounds like your 2nd gear synchro is out.unfortunately your tranny needs to come out to fix it.does it only between 1-2? or other gears? if all gears your cutch is goin but just between 2 specific gears a synchro times the gear teeth so they lock in and its off and teeth on the gears are the grinding you are hearing.sorry to have to tell yah that one.i always loved my old 325 is model always fun to drive.

i agree with kirkx about things to check .. maybe this added suggestion will not be needed but that transmission has a special "limp along" feature .. that is, if it detects something wrong then the "limp along" mode is involked .. thats intended only to allow you to get to a service shop .. it may limit what gears you can use and can even lock up the torque converter .. you can still drive but it will lurch when you put it in gear and it may not shift ... its not unusual for the transmission to go in and out of the "limp along" mode for awhile until even more damage is done which locks it in that mode or until it quits completely .. lets hope you are just low on fluid ... make absolutely sure you use the correct fluid .. this tranny has a cooling problem (due to very low internal spacing) and needs a special thin oil to keep it from overheating .. you might consider having the tranny flushed ... they force a cleaning fluid thru it to wash out scale and deposits .. about $100 .. that wont help if its already damaged but worth a try since a new tranny costs about what the 96 is worth .... i love my 96 .. wish it would last forever .. the tranny repair shop tells me to expect from 75,000 to 150,000 lifetime .. but i have seen several with 200,000 or more miles .. maybe thats just luck ..
