Here are some good causes and its worth to take in consideration:
Clogged fuel filter?
Insufficient fuel pressure due to a faulty fuel pump?
MAF sensor?
Catalityc converter?
ECU module?
does the CHECK ENGINE show up?
Get back to me.

Replaced spark plugs and wires on my 03 galant 2.4 but still hesitation i tested the coil packs if you unplug them while the engine running its runs fine plug them back up its hesitation again

Check the routing of the wires. Could be wrong. I believe the firing order is 1,4,3,2. If it is correct, clean the throttle body. On the inside, to include the back of the throttle valve. check the air filter.

What else could this code mean code p0300 random misfire

A miss-fire could be ignition problems that are easily missed.
There is a sensor in the crank shaft that starts the ignition process. So the sensor could be bad or the other part of it called the reluctor ring (depending on the year, make and model.) Then you have the wires from it to the ECM and it could be wires, The ECM then sends the signal to the coil packs to fire, the coil packs then generate the high voltage that goes to the spark plugs.
Besides the Ignition system you could have a problem with the fuel system. If the fuel system has an injector problem then it is not sending the right fuel amount at the right time and it could cause the mis-fire.

P0304 misfire 4

There are so many things that can cause a missfire.
Just a thought. IF you switch both the plug and coil with a different cylinder it should show the missfire on that cylinder. You might want to check the compression on cylinder number 4.

You may also want to check the continuity of the conectin to the number 4 coil pack.

Check the plugs that were replaced. They may have been cheap plugs. If number four plug is fouled you may have ring problems.

Hope this helps

I just replaced the spark plugs on my 98 ford explorer suv 5.0. do i need to have the ignition retimed?

Wow! So many things can cause hesitation or miss. Did you run the OBD II scan? Auto-Zone will scan it for you. Usually on an older car, unless the spark plug wiring has been recently replaced, you need to do that too.
Then you have a lot of age on the coil pack also. Also clean your MAF sensor and your idle air control valve at the throttle gizmo.
Describe the hesitation a little more. don-ohio (:^)

Occasional miss or hesitation while driving will also do this at idle have checked points and set at 20 thou have changed plugs set timing at 7btdthen advanced a little after no change leads are only...

You set the gap at 20 sould be 16,a hesitation or occasional miss is not from the points or condensor, its from the craburator, its a power valve or your float getting the hesitation can be the secondary not feeding at wide open throttle, the carburator is faulty, and plus todays fuel is not meant for carburators

Hesitation in engine

Actually there are two kinds of engine hesitation. One is from fuel then two is the air .The mechanic should check on the fuel filter .look if the fuel that is going to the fuel pump is dirty or worn out . check the fuel filter then look if it is dirty and needed to be replace or change. Then the second is that the air filter it should also be check if dirty then replace it so that no dirt will go to the engine . if these problems are not solved then the cylinder will be having a problem that will cause the engine to hesitate. And always check the fuel you use to place to the fuel thank if dirty or diluted just to be sure.
