The battery may be at the end of it's service life--take the car to AutoZone or similar business and have them check out the battery and whether the alternator is actually replacing charge as it should (a free service). Hope this helps!

Then your alternator isnt functioning propperly,, basically your driving on battery power.. Keep a tester on the alternator you need at least 13.5 volts to 14.2 volts for it to work propperly.. Make sure you connect the tester leads to that of the battery terminal..

SOURCE: my alternator went out so

Sounds to me like your alternator is still defective. You don't need a good battery to run a car. Start car and remove (carefully...do not allow it to touch any metal), negative battery cable. If car dies it is the alternator. If it runs then the battery is bad. Hope this helps.

87 f250, 5.0 302 Alt went out was the old design with excitor wire. Auto part shops say new alt bipasses excitor wire. Ive tried 2 styles .My question is... What alternator do I need?

so you replaced it with wrong alt. how fun that.?
but what is wrong I bet is thjis
not doing step1.
S1: remove battery neg lug first.
s1a if not dont the you blew up the huge alternator main fuse
connected to the huge alternator stud wire. boom its blow up
and 100000 new alternators fail and there are more fuses too.
check them all ,skip none, that means too FUSEABLE LINKS
and do not let clerks tell you what to do. they are NOT TECHS.
find out what the truck needs first
even here is clear

sadly the SM tells this,. yup used 4 types of ALT here.

  1. Rear Terminal, External Regulator, External Fan Alternator
  2. Side Terminal, Internal Regulator, External Fan Alternator
  3. Leece-Neville 165 Ampere Alternator
  4. Integral Rear Mount Regulator, Internal Fan Alternator
lost the old OEM working (before) alternator I hope not. did you?
this is one schem./

Link "J) blow if battery lug not pulled first NEG lug.
has internal regulator here. no ECU override on 5.0

87woac-undefined-undefined-0.jpg hard to find truth here, the books do not cover all 4 ways.
some ALTs are born dead with charge lamp burned out.
so make sure it is not. (called self excitation path)

2000 Mustang v6 dies in the middle of the highway less than 2 weeks after replacing alternator?

Are you saying it died because of battery or charging system? I've seen info that says generator rebuilders have a tough time with rebuilding ford generators. It's not uncommon for them to be faulty right out of the box. What testing have you done on your battery and charging system? Any applicable trouble codes? The problem might be something unrelated to battery and charging system. I mentioned the generator because you mentioned it.

71 c10 not staying charged... new battery alternator fuses good and new voltage regulator

Maybe it wasn't running long enough to charge up the battery?
Stop trying to jump it, when you are having problems with it dying, take the battery off and have it charged. And/or buy a $20 voltmeter to see what the battery shows. If it says less than 12 volts, it is discharged, and needs charging. A good battery that is not run down should have at least 12.5 volts. A new battery that is charged should have very close to 13 volts, maybe 12.8 volts.
When you have the truck running, check the alternator for charging. You put the voltmeter right on the battery and check it again. This time, with truck running, battery should show at least 13.5 volts. That shows the alternator is working. A good alternator will put out about 13 or 14 volts-the regulator will keep it from going any higher to prevent problems, like a melting battery or electrical parts burning out.
I would say get the charging system working right, then address the problem of dying at stop lights. That could be a carburetor problem, if the alternator is working.

1999 Toyota Tacoma battery keeps dying

This is easy to test but you need a multimeter. Connect the multimeter to the battery and run the engine at a fast idle (say 2000 rpm). You should get a voltage reading anywhere from 14 to 15 volts if the battery is fully charged and the alternator is working. If the reading is around 12 volts, then the alternator is not working.

The alternator is what charges the battery, most likely there is a bad connection at or to the battery, or the alternator has quit working and you will need to replace the alternator.

Battery keeps draining

if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.

All gauges went dead while driving, lights progressively dimmed and finally engine quit.

Your alternator died. You drove until your battery died also. You need a new alternator and a new battery. You might be able to get away with just charging your battery. Do Not jump start the vehicle and let the new alternator try to charge the old battery! Take the battery to a service station for testing and a charge. Install the new alternator and then install the charged battery not vice versa and you'll be fine.
