Question about 2003 Dodge Sprinter

4 Answers

Hi I have been having problems with A Shake and a howl.

I have had new tires put on , no difference. I have had a new drive line put on , no difference. I opened up the cover on the diff, no fillings or any noticeable wear, filled it with new oil no difference. Now I wonder could it come from my trans, or what are the signs of the failure of this type.

I have the xact sme problem witha 2003 Sprinter. New tires. When vibrating from as low as35 mph to 70mph, not allthe time. I almost feel its a trans issue. My reasoning is I can slightly lift off accell and noise, vibration goes away, I can slip the trans in neutral when it's really bad and it goes away. By that happening I feel it's not a driveline issue. Any info would be nice. Thanks

Check the transmission bushing in the end housing where the driveshaft goes into trans for excessive wear.

Why would my car shake no matter what rim and tire I use?

you don`t say if you had the wheel/tire balanced. you could have damaged the CV joint on that side causing a binding in the bearing.

I have a escape 02 4x4 that howls maybe the hubs

check tires as well. But yea if you are driving when the noise exists, swaying back and forth in lanes will let you know if its a hub noise. If its a hub noise the growl will be louder or different when weight shifts off and on the hub. Where weight is on the hub it usually gets louder. Alot of the time there may be two problems like tires and hub noise. Tire noise is easier as rotating front wheels and rear wheels will change position of growling/howling noises.
Good luck

What could cause HHR front end shake?

At what speed does it start to shake? Does it get worse, the faster you drive? Does it make a difference if you are going straight or turning left or right?

Driving the car an here A humming sound like A tire but just put on new tires could it be wheel bearings

Yes it could. If the sounds tends to change when you maneuver around corners at speed, this is consistant with a bad wheel bearing. Commonly described as a howling sound.

If the problem appeared after changing the tires let us know.

Howling noise while driving.

Need a little humor now and then, anyway it sounds like you have a pinion gear bearing that's noisy, they really howl when they get worn out, in order to change this bearing the rear end gears must be removed, new bearings should be installed on all parts, 4 total, the metal from the failed pinion bearing will ruin the rest of the bearings, might as well only do it once, also change the axle bearings and seals while you are in there.

Howl rear right wheel

As a matter of fact the diff can make noise on and off the gas, my own car a 1996 Corvette does this, it needs the ring and pinion replaced, is this what you are talking about when you say they told you that you needed a whole new differential?
