Question about 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport
I ned to recharge the a/c and don't want to put the wrong freon in there. What type do I need to use??
This may help:
Since it was discovered that Freon (R-12) was harmful to the earth's Ozone layer, it's been phased out for automotive use, and replaced with the slightly less efficient, but harmless R-134a refrigerant.
Since the conversion to R-134a started in the early 90s, I suspect your Mitsubishi uses only that.
BTW, if R-134a is 'harmless' why do the large refill bottles, similar to that used for propane, have a warning on them clearly stating that the contents are 'known to cause damage to the ozone layer?'
There is a lot of speculation that DuPont wanted something new to sell.
Our government nearly dried up the market as the 'ban' went into effect by buying huge stores of R-12 before it was taken off of the market.
