Question about 1991 Toyota Pickup
I have my 1991 pickup toyota, It's working very well.
But since two months the light check engine is always turn on.
Many times i went to the garage the problem is still pending.
Can i get your suggestion about this.
There are quote a few sensors located all over the fuel, intake, engine, and exhaust systems. Any one of them can cause the Check Engine Light to come on.
A ew common problems that are worth checking:
Make sure the gas cap is tightened 3 clicks. Improper fuel tank pressure can cause the CE light.
Dirty fuel injectors, even though it runs good. Try a bottle of fuel injector cleaner run through a tank of gas.
O2 sensors could be going out early. Normally they need replacement at around 60K miles.
You can reset the light by pulling the EFI fuse under the hood, and reinserting it. (this is basically resetting the ECU, same as unhooking the battery, without having to reset all the other stuff like your radio buttons, alarm system, etc.) If you have an automatic transmission, your ECU will have to start over relearning your driving habits so your gas mileage may suffer for a month or so. But the CE light may stay off. If the light comes back on, you need to have it diagnosed by someone with a Toyota code reader.
Best of luck,

1989 Toyota Pickup V6 Auto: My "check engine" light was on for months. This was after I replaced the old one with not 1 but two new Bosch O2 sensors. Auto electrician found that it was a broken wire in the harness that plugs into the 02 sensor. Works fine now.

If you're having a problem with the knock sensor, you might wanna check the quality of the gas you're buying, that's one major cause of this problem.

The guy that suggested the oxygen sensor is right but the oxygen sensor will go out at some milage (that's a for sure) but for toyotas this it typically between 85,000 and 105,000 miles depending on driving habits. The more city stop and go driving tends to gunk them up faster however if you do more highway driving you may get 120,000 miles before failure. The sensor cost about $85 to $125 but you better double add another $100 for installation cost. It's actually very easy to install it's threaded into the exast pipe close to the engine. To reset the light just remove the "EFI, fuel control fuse" located under the hood or if your a rookie just remove one of the battery cables wait 10 seconds and reconnet the cable you should be go-to-go.
WARNING: Watch out for rip off repair facilities if they want more than $300 for total repair (parts and labor) go somewhere else. And a bad ozygen sensor won't ruin your engine should you need to drive to another shop for a new quote. If they tell you it will you tell them your pal Billy said "NICE TRY FIND ANOTHER ******" Good Luck "Billy"
