HELP!! My brake lights on a 99 ford taurus went out and I bought new bulbs for it but I cant get the lights off to change them. I think it might be a fuse that needs to be changed but I am not sure where to look or what to even look for. Can someone please help me??

I have a 98 Taurus and just had the same issue. You have to pull out the plastic pins holding the carpet, fold the carpet down out of the way and remove 5 nuts. They are most likely metric, but a 7/16" deep-well socket worked for me. Then you remove the entire lens assembly, be careful as there are wires attached. pull out slightly on the connector latches while pulling the connector to remove the cable from the light socket. Twist the light socket counter-clockwise to remove it from the lens assembly and access the bulb. The 3157 is the one closest the license plate.

A lot of work to replace a simple bulb. It should only take about 15 minutes if you have a deep-well socket - I don't think it would be possible with a wrench.

Just a couple of notes on crichner's solution. The socket size is 11mm so use that if you have it. On the 99 Taurus the way to remove the pins holding the carpet in is to first remove, with a small screwdriver, the square center pins and then the larger pins will come out easily.

I had that problem and I looked under the dash and one of the wires that is connected to the switch on the brake peddle was disconnected I just reconnected it because the switch I found out I would have to order from the factory and thought it would get exspensive. every now and then the wire comes loose but I just re attacth it and keep riddin. lol. Another thing I just found out is there is another fuse box under the dash under the emergancy brake. if a fuse is blown the wires on the inside will not be connected.

All signals and other flashers work but passenger front flashers do not work

Use a test light, test for power and ground at the bulb contacts. Then test for power and ground at the wires. Probably needs a new socket, common problem.

If we are talking of the high mount brake lamp the bulbs are accessed from the top of the rear deck. Remove the housing by pulling it firmly and there is access to the bulbs

Go the cheapest way first..... Replace both bulbs. It may be that both bulbs went out relatively at the same time

How do I replace the brake light bulb, cant see how to get to the bulb.

im thinking you have to open the trunk , and pull the carpet back to see the plastic srews that hold the lights in place , you will have to un screw them remove the lights in whole to get to the lights that fit in from the back , its pretty easy once you get that far

The brake lights for 1990 Ford Taurus won't work, but the 3rd brake light does.

It could be the turn signal switch. I think that car uses the same bulb for the rear turn signals as they do for the brake lights. If that's the case the power for the brake lights is routed through the turn signal switch. The nice thing about that car is the switch is easy to change. Take the shroud loose around the steering column and the switch is held on with two screws.

I have a ford taurus 95 and the passenger brake lite and blinker is not working but when u put the lites on the bulbs work but still no brake lite and blinker

You most likely need a new bulb in that location.
It is a dual filament bulb......one filament for the brake and signal and one for the running light ....both in the same bulb.
Remove the old bulb and get a replacement bulb using the # printed on the old bulb.

I have a1993 Fird Taurus wagon. The brake lights

Check all fuses with a test light with key on.
This is the best way to do it on Fords.
Change all blown fuses.
Are the brake light BULBS OK?
This is the more common cause of.....no brake lights.
....and don't forget the brake light switch if all this fails.

Change bulb in the High Break Mount on a Ford Taurus

if it is a taurus wagon then you need to take a screwdriver and you can aactually pull the light down and the just pull of the cover and take out the bulb. if it is sitting on the back dash try opening your trunk and looking at it from inside your trunk and you should be able to access it that way.
